How to get US citizenship and who can get it?

Many CIS residents dream of becoming citizens of the United States of America. Therefore, the answer to the question of how to obtain US citizenship is very urgent. And indeed, US citizens have some advantages even compared to permanent residents of the United States, who do not have such citizenship. First, it is participation in elections - only citizens of the country can participate in elections to government bodies and be elected. Secondly, to be able to be a jury. Third, travel with a US citizen's passport and be sure that, if necessary, you can count on the assistance and assistance of the US government abroad (through the embassies and representations of that country in other states).

A US citizen has the advantage that he can apply for entry to the permanent residence in the US of his family members. To accept certain positions, too, American citizenship is required. The requirements for taxation can differ from those of US citizens and permanent residents of the country. Some grants, scholarships and grants are issued only to US citizens. And, finally, obtaining US citizenship guarantees that you will not under any circumstances be deported, deported or extradited.

There is a group of people who automatically acquire US citizenship. These can be legal children of an American citizen born abroad. If they are children who were born outside a registered marriage, an American citizen must recognize his paternity and formalize custody of the child. While the child is under 18 years of age, an American parent must also register the fact of his birth in the US Consulate. In fact, any child born in the US receives citizenship on the very fact of birth in that country's territory, even if both of his parents stayed there illegally. However, this does not affect the fate of the parents - they do not receive citizenship or a residence permit.

For all other categories of persons, there is a brochure "The Guide to Naturalization" published by the country's migration service, which clearly and in detail describes how to obtain US citizenship. This document clearly spells out the entire procedure for naturalization, that is, the acquisition of citizenship, as well as the conditions when this procedure can be initiated. Let's consider these conditions. First of all, this residence in the US for at least 5 years (or 3 years for those who are married or married and live together with an American citizen / citizen). It must also be proved that during these five or three years a person is continuously (at least 18 months for married and married and 30 months for all others) physically located on the territory of the country

Before acquiring US citizenship, a foreigner over the age of 18 must fill out a special form called M-476. From it begins the procedure of naturalization. Before submitting this application, you must continuously live in the county or state for at least 3 months. Next, you should fill out the M-480 form, which you can find in the sample "Naturalization Guide" to determine if you are generally entitled to citizenship. For example, if you have a serious criminal record or you have been a Communist (an official member of the party) for a long time, your request will be rejected. A statement of the desire to accept US citizenship is Form N-400. It must be completed and paid the fee. In this form, you must provide direct evidence of your continued residence in the United States in a given district during the time required by law. Further, you need proof of your high moral consciousness - that you did not commit serious crimes (even in the distant past and not in the US). By the way, before you get US citizenship, you need to do everything to renounce the citizenship of the country where you lived before - the principle of dual citizenship in the US is not. Next, the question of values follows - you will have to prove that you understand and share the principles outlined in the US Constitution and take a test of English.

There are other, special rules on how to obtain citizenship in the United States. A completely different procedure for naturalization is effective, for example, against people who fought for the interests of the United States, served in the army of this country, or so did their close relatives; Privileges are also enjoyed by those who received permanent residence under the amnesty law of 1986; Has refugee status or political asylum in the United States; Persons who are married to an American citizen who does not live in the US, as well as employees of some non-profit organizations or companies.
