How to clean the soleplate of an iron

The modern market offers a huge selection of irons. But, despite the non-stick coating and self-cleaning system, almost every housewife from time to time is faced with the problem of contamination of the sole. Therefore, the question of how to clean the soleplate of an iron is more than relevant. There are many ways of cleaning, both with the use of professional cleaning liquids, and with the use of improvised tools.

How to choose the right iron

Of course, if you choose the correct iron model, then problems with stains, dirt and breakages can be minimized. To date, there are three main varieties:

  • Irons with aluminum sole - similar models are not very popular. Of course, such irons quickly cool down and heat up, but the surface of the soles quickly scratches.
  • Irons made of chrome or stainless steel - the sole of the iron is sturdy, easily glides over the fabric and is cleanable. On the other hand, this technique is heavy, slowly warms up and just as slowly becomes cold.
  • The most popular for today are irons, the sole of which is made of cermets.

When choosing an iron, it is also worth paying attention to the control system, cord length, heating temperature, the presence of non-stick coating and a steam self-cleaning system.

How to clean the soleplate with professional tools

Almost in any store of household chemicals you can buy special cleaning products. Very popular are special pencils. In order to clean the sole, the iron must first be heated to a maximum temperature, then carefully rubbed with a pencil. Unfortunately, this technique has one drawback. The soles of irons, as a rule, have holes for steam, and the cleaning agent quite often clogs these holes.

How to clean the sole of iron from polyethylene

If the decorative elements of clothing are ironed incorrectly, polyethylene film often sticks to the sole of the iron. Clearing the technique of such pollution is quite simple. For this purpose, it is recommended to use either alcohol or acetone (the liquid for removing the varnish is perfect). Dampen in a cleaning agent a cotton swab and carefully wipe the surface of the sole. If the polyethylene particles are hammered into the holes, use a cotton swab for cleaning.

How to clean the soleplate of the iron from stains and burns

Due to improper use of household appliances on the soles, stains from the mold are often left, which can leave marks on the fabrics during ironing. There are many ways to get rid of brownish dirt. Quite often, hydrogen peroxide is used for this purpose. Another effective means of cleaning is ordinary table vinegar.

The cleaning technique is very simple. First, the iron needs to be warmed up, and then disconnected from the mains. Wipe the cotton swab in the chosen tool (bite or hydrogen peroxide) and gently wipe the soleplate. The holes should be treated with a cotton swab. After cleaning, wipe the sole with a damp cloth, and then dry, preferably from cotton cloth.

How to clean the iron from scaling and rust

Scale and rust in the iron, as a rule, appear when the water from the tap is used for ironing. Remember that in the iron you can pour only boiled or distilled water. You can clean the device with citric acid. Dissolve a small amount of acid in water and pour the solution into the iron reservoir. Leave for 20 minutes, then warm up the device. Use the steam button to thoroughly clean the holes on the sole.

In any case, remember that household appliances need regular care. Wipe the soleplate of the iron with a damp cotton cloth after every use, pour only purified water into it - and the equipment will serve you as long as possible.
