How to Choose the Right Video Camera for Video Surveillance

Establish a simple, non-professional security video surveillance system in an apartment or on a suburban site by many. The main thing on which to stop attention is the right choice of equipment. What are the main criteria you need to know when choosing a video camera for video surveillance?

Analog or IP?

Undoubtedly for digital IP cameras the future of security television. The image from IP cameras can be increased without loss of signal quality and consider the smallest elements of the picture. The minus of such cameras is only one, their high price. Therefore, for an amateur in the field of security systems, I recommend using analog video cameras.

Color or black and white?

Black and white video cameras are getting smaller and smaller on the market. But they have an important advantage, with loss in the informative image, they have high sensitivity, especially in conditions of insufficient illumination. Optimum option, color cameras with the function of "day-night." Such cameras transmit a color image, but when the illumination decreases, they switch to the black-and-white shooting mode.

Outdoor or Indoor?

It's simple, if the cameras will stand on the street, buy a street-camera with heating, or separately thermo. The first is preferably a ready-made device. Experiment in the cold with video cameras without heating, I do not advise, at best they will not show, at worst, you irrevocably ruin them.

The resolution of the video camera is 380 or 700?

Of course, not pixels! Resolution of analog video cameras is measured in TVL (television lines). My advice: 420TV is enough for your surveillance system. It is rather difficult to keep a high resolution (600-700TVL), it is necessary to have a DVR capable of processing such a signal, and a short extension of the cable signal lines.

High sensitivity or infrared illumination?

The sensitivity of the camera is the minimum value of illumination, at which the device retains the ability to "see". Measured in lux (Lk). At night, the illumination is 0.003 ... 0.1k. Accordingly, for 24-hour video surveillance, a camera with a sensitivity of 0.01 lux is needed. Infrared lighting is welcomed, especially in rooms.

What lens?

In short, it is difficult to explain, a professional can pick up the lens to the surveillance camera in many parameters, optimally for each specific case. In order not to get confused, at least in the standards of fastening, get a camera with a built-in lens. The viewing angle can be determined approximately, and choose the nearest larger standard value.

If you install it yourself, the above parameters are enough to select a video camera for video surveillance. When purchasing equipment, do not overpay for unknown functions and super-high parameters, it is very difficult to correctly implement and configure them without preparation. If you need professional editing or a qualified advice on video surveillance systems, it is better to contact specialists.
