How to care for strawberries to get a big harvest

To begin with, it is necessary to determine the location of the berry beds on the plot of land. Good growth, development and fruiting, are possible in a sunny place. The illumination of the ridges should be kept for 70% of the day's light. You need weakly acid and well-fertilized soil. Preparation of beds for planting seedlings should take place in May-June. To the end of July, you already had cultivated ridges.

Even if you know how to care for strawberries, but have chosen clay, sandy soils or groundwater level is very close to the surface, then you can not even count on a good harvest.

The ideal period for planting new strawberry bushes is 20-25 July. By this time it is necessary to prepare your own seedlings. You can buy seedlings in any garden supermarket or garden fairs. When purchasing seedlings in any place, pay attention to its appearance. The plant should have a well developed root system and a heart. It should be present at least 3-4 leaves with a bright color and without traces of twisting, drying or blotchiness.

Own seedlings should be planted on the prepared bed with a clod of earth. Purchased bushes should be processed in a slightly pink solution of manganese, for at least 1 hour, flushing at the same time with an earthen lump. Thus, you will secure your landing from accidentally introduced diseases.

Make holes according to the scheme 20x20. In the middle of each, fill a small mound of earth. From the moment of planting to frost, the strawberry bush will get well, which will enable it to winter without damage.

It should be remembered how to care for the strawberries of each year fruiting. You should have at least 4 beds with berry bushes on the site, one of which is constantly updated. The biggest harvest is given by bushes 2 and 3 years. Seedlings of the first year will bring many berries only when thickened planting. A plant after 4 years should be replaced, otherwise the berries are ground and their number will be much less.

How to care for strawberries after planting? In the first few days you need to take care of a little pritenie landings. This can be done with the help of newspapers or small plywood boards. Watering in the morning and evening, moisturizing the soil well. After 3-4 days, we switch to watering at a frequency of once a week. In late October, you should cover the planting of strawberries with spruce paws. They will help protect it from severe frosts and will delay snow. Make sure that when frosts are 8-10 degrees, all strawberry ridges are covered with a layer of snow.
