Tauride Gardens. Architectural monument

This place, located in the heart of St. Petersburg, is considered a true monument of art. It was created in the 19th century by order of Prince Potemkin. Today, in a shady garden, city dwellers are walking, and the CIS Assembly is sitting in the palace.

The shady square looked elegant and picturesque, despite its artificial landscape. Until the end of the twentieth century, the park remained intact, as long as the modern rhythm of life did not make its own adjustments.

The Tavrichesky Garden, whose opening hours can be found on its official website, is very easy to find in the city. First you need to get to the metro station "Chernyshevskaya", exit and turn right. So you will find yourself on Furshtatskaya Street, walk along it until crossing with Potemkinskaya. And across the road you will see one of the entrances to the park.

Tauride Gardens. History Grigory Potemkin received for his services to the Fatherland as a gift from Catherine the Great princely title and land. On the site was built the Tauride castle, and behind it it was decided to break the garden. The development of the project and arrangement in 1783 involved architect Ivan Starov and garden master William Gould. In the garden, they dug ponds and canals, built bridges and artificial hills. Especially from England were brought unusual trees and shrubs. According to the idea of the creators, the Tauride Garden, created in a romantic style, was to completely imitate the beauty of nature. So there was a greenhouse of the Tauride Garden.

In 1866 it became a place for walking and playing games. On the territory of the park, concerts and exhibitions were held. And in the winter time there were famous Taurian Katanas. At the beginning of the XX century the garden began to be considered a Park of Culture and Rest, and a little later there appeared a sports ground and attractions for children. In 1920 it was decided to reconstruct the garden. The redevelopment was entrusted to the architect Fomin.

During the Patriotic War, the territory of the Tauride Garden turned into a vegetable garden for growing hungry townspeople. It was here that the workshops for the repair of cars carrying products along the "Road of Life" were located. The garden was badly damaged by the fallen German plane, but in 1962 it was completely restored and a monument was erected in memory of those who held the defense of Leningrad. And on the birthday of St. Petersburg in 2003, the Parliamentary Alley was opened. At the end of the 20th century, two new pedestrians appeared, Esenin and Tchaikovsky.

Modern Taurian Garden Today the external appearance of the Tauride Garden has changed for the better. It became more pleasant to walk along the alleys, when the dogs were forbidden to walk here. The only pity is that not all animal owners comply with this rule.

There are always a lot of sportsmen in the park: some just run along the paths, others do it on the playgrounds. It's nice to see how women at the age of selflessly doing exercises. For children, in addition to playing and sports grounds, there is a special studio "IgraAteka". There are groups of people singing psalms and distributing brochures of religious content.

Not far from the garden, right at the intersection of Potemkin and Shpalernaya streets, is an ancient greenhouse, where it is pleasant to wander among the greenery and flowers. At the same time look into the store to buy your favorite plant, well, or a gypsum statuette. You can also sit in a cafe on the top floor.
