God Perun - Thunder and Lightning Lord

The history of development of the human race is filled with various traditions and beliefs, which for the most part do not withstand any constructive criticism. However, there is something before even the most unyielding skeptics fall - legends and myths about religion. So, everyone knows for sure that paganism has started the development of modern spiritual views. Ancient Slavs living in the territory of modern South and Eastern Europe, worshiped a huge number of gods, chief among them was the god Perun - the son of Svarog. To date, evidence of the worship of Thunderbolts is found all over the world.

The very first mention of it to the world is the Old Slavic treaties, manuscripts and annals. One of the most striking examples is the famous "Tale of Bygone Years", in which the god Perun is represented as one of the six main pagan Slavic gods.

It is worth noting that this Almighty was the lord of lightning, thunder and rain. According to some sources, he was identified with a crop and fertility. The cult of reverence of Perun was especially bright during the reign of Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich, also known as the "Red Sun". It was then that this god-thunderer was honored as the patron of the squad and warriors. In those days a huge number of temples appeared, where there were services, the eternal witness of which was eternal fire.

Perun - the god of heaven, but also the earth was considered his fiefdom. The immediate authority of his subordinated fields, forests and groves. Therefore, it is not surprising that in those times it was considered sacrilege and blasphemy to tear a branch from a reserved tree. For such a sin followed the inevitable punishment. A special value was given to the oak grove. It was believed that among the powerful age-old branches of this tree, a mighty supreme power hides during a thunderstorm. Proceeding from this, the Slavs believed that if a lightning struck the oak tree, the god Perun was angry and indicated that his people were angry.

Sometimes as a sacrifice to the Almighty animals were brought, more often wild boars. It was believed that the boar is a product of evil, and to combat it, it is necessary to bring gifts to Perun. In addition, many novels and chronicles claim that even the people fell on the altar to pay for great sins and to placate God. It should be noted that the blood offerings were very rare: usually only once a year, in July.

It is worth saying that the god Perun is the patron saint of the fern. It was believed that only the father of the whole Earth is able to give him flowers. The ancient temples and sanctuaries sometimes had a shape reminiscent of the octagon of the fern. The ancient Slavs called this plant only "Perunov color". They sacredly believed that on the night of Ivan Kupala, God dealt with unclean forces with the help of lightning, thunder and thunder. It is from the charge sent to the earth that the fern blooms.

Some sources claim that there are records that represent the commandments of the god Perun. In total there are 33. Each of them teaches a person to be better, purer and more truthful, punishes how to live in harmony with oneself and the world.
