GAZ-3308 ("Huntsman"): specifications, prices, photos and reviews

The GAZ-3308 is a truck with increased cross-country capability, which is mass-produced at the Russian GAZ auto plant since 1999. The ancestor of this machine is rightly considered the all-wheel drive GAZ-66, which was used for the needs of the Soviet army. But the new model 3308 differs not only in its running characteristics and high cross-country capability. However, let's start in order. So, what is this car? Find answers in our review.

Appearance

The GAZ-3308 car in its design almost does not differ from its civil predecessor GAZ-3307, which was produced since the early 90's. The layout of the cabin and the body is very practical. Headlamps and turn signals of the round form are placed separately and not built into the bumper (as KAMAZ and MAZ are doing now on their 5-ton models). In the event of damage to one of the lamps, the rest will be in good condition, and with a head-on impact, the frame with a massive metal bumper takes the load on itself, and then the cab. The shape of the glazing is also very simple. Any outstanding features, except the grille with the GAZ emblem, the car does not. The cabin is designed so that even with maximum damage the car will drive without breakages, and the crushed detail of the cab can be replaced with a minimum set of tools.

By the way, the design of the truck GAZ-3307, however, like its all-wheel drive modification, differs little from the 53rd GAZ, which is often called the legend of the Soviet car industry. In appearance, all these machines were no different from the others - at that time the slope was made not on a beautiful exterior, but on a powerful and reliable design. And with this our engineers coped, as they say, with a bang.

Interior of the car

The interior of the truck is also no different from the 3307 model. A direct instrument panel made of plastic is painted exclusively in black matte color - this solution is used in both army and civilian versions of GAZON. The very quality of finishing materials, according to drivers, is far from the best - the plastic is very noisy and tough to the touch. Although, on the other hand, no one was thinking about attractiveness at all. Inside, from the passenger side, there is a small glove box for things and other stuff. The center of the shift lever is an unusual curved shape. The gearshift scheme is not indicated on it - it is placed on the instrument panel in the form of a sticker. Such a curved design of the handle of the checkpoint was chosen not accidentally: it was made for a more convenient movement of people around the salon. By the way, on 53 GAZONS instead of one driver's and one passenger's seat was a solid (but very comfortable) sofa. Moving around the cockpit with this seat is very easy - there are no obstacles underfoot.

But back to the all-wheel drive GAZ 3308-th model. During the conversation about the interior, I would like to note the presence of a new ventilation system and a powerful stove, thanks to which the air temperature in the cabin is maintained at a level of plus 10-15 degrees with the most severe frost.

The instrument panel is covered with various measuring scales scattered horizontally. It seems that you control not a domestic truck, but some sort of space vehicle. At the same time, the data from the arrows are read very easily, and in them it is almost impossible to get confused - everything is so clear and informative.

Near the rear wall of the cab are the transfer case levers. There are several of them: one includes a lower gear, and the second one is connected by a front axle. The visibility from the driver's side is excellent. This is achieved not only due to the large glazing, but also thanks to the huge side mirrors of the rear view. Since the cabin in its size is a bit already a booth, they are stretched a few centimeters. But this does not show up in the visibility, and even more so - on traffic safety. By the way, thanks to special sliding arches, both mirrors can easily be folded.

About shortcomings

However, in spite of technical progress, GAZon retained old problems. So, the most vulnerable part is the quality of soundproofing. In the cockpit it is practically absent, so the hum and vibrations from the diesel engine are clearly audible every second. A bit lucky to the owners of gasoline modifications GAZ-3308 - vibration from the engine is almost not felt.

Specifications of GAZ-3308

In total there are 2 power units in the engine line. Among the gasoline here is presented one V-shaped "eight" Zavolzhsky production ZMZ-513.10 with a working volume of 4.25 liters and a capacity of 116 horsepower. The diesel engine is produced in Belarus (D-245.7), which, with its working volume of 4.75 liters, develops a capacity of 117 "horses". By the way, the D240 and D245 units are installed on the medium-tonnage vehicles ZIL "Bychok", and also on the GAZ 3309th model. The brake system is a classic, drum type on both axles.

Both units are equipped with one mechanical transmission. Its role is played by a 5-speed manual. Thanks to powerful power plants and a good ratio of gear ratios, the maximum speed of the truck GAZ-3308 is 90 kilometers per hour. Also, the car easily overcomes any impassability, sand and gravel sites, which contributes to a high (31.5 centimeters) clearance.

Car load capacity

As you can see, the technical characteristics of the GAZ-3308 are quite good. By the way, its total carrying capacity under the passport is 1.8 tons. Although, as practice shows, the GAZ-3308 "Sadko" easily transports loads weighing 4.5, and sometimes 5 tons (in the case of paired wheels on the rear axle). This is facilitated by a powerful frame and a robust body structure.

GAZ-3308: price

The cost for this car, depending on the modification and length of the frame, varies from 1 to 2 million rubles. In this case, each model of the truck is already equipped with a power steering.
In the army versions of GAZON, there is a system for pumping the wheels, as well as pneumatic output to the brake system and a winch.
