In the history of mankind there were many figures, inventors and pioneers who contributed to the development of completely different spheres. Among the magic and esoteric sciences, Eliphas Levi became such a figure. Many people interested in this field, appreciated him for his openness to the reality of superreality. In addition, he made many discoveries in magic, wrote a large number of books, opened before the world the sacraments of rituals and practices. Over time, he was called the last magician.

Biography

Levi Eliphas is the literary pseudonym of the French reader and occultist Alphonse Louis Constant. He was born on February 8, 1810 in the family of a shoemaker in the territory of Paris. Since childhood he was a very dreamy boy. From a young age he was interested in magic and magic, and he believed that the world is much more than meets the eye.

Study

The first educational institution in the life of the occultist was the Primary Seminary of St. Nicholas, located in Chardonnay, where his parents sent him. After his graduation, he went to Issi to enter the Higher Sulpitsian Seminary. It was there that Levi Eliphas began studying magic, in this he helped the director of the seminary, the abbot. At the end of this institution, he had to become a deacon, but his life was different. As soon as he was ordained in 1836, Levi disowned him because of his own passion.

Personal life

As Levi Eliphas himself said, he did not continue the spiritual path, because God rewarded him with what the unmerciful saints call "temptation." He himself believed that this is the true initiation into human life. His first passion was the young Adele Allenbach, to whom he taught such discipline as the catechism. But his life changed dramatically after the mother's suicide. Then spiritual and material poverty burst into it, overwhelming the negative.

Fateful for him was a meeting with Gauguin's grandmother, Flora Tristan, who was quite a significant figure in the women's and workers' liberation movement. It was a very violent conversation, forever changing the life of Levi. It was this woman who introduced him to Alphonse Esquiros and Balzac. The first just before the acquaintance published a novel called "The Magician", which, undoubtedly, influenced Konstant.

Solom

In 1939, Levi Eliphas returns to the path of the ministry of the church and heads to the Salem abbey. He stayed there for a year, after which he left because he never got along with the abbot. But during this time he had much to do. Having received the writings of Spiridon George Santa, he learned a lot of interesting information. He also was able to master the teachings of the Gnostics of antiquity. Having plunged into mysticism with a head, it is in Solem that he writes the now famous Bible of freedom.

Return to Paris and prison

When a year later he returned to Paris, his financial situation again became quite beggarly. He got an intern at Oratorian College in Juill. Then he decides to publish his Bible of freedom for the first time. But as soon as the first circulation was on the shelves, the book was immediately seized. The arrest of the "Bible" was justified by the fact that it expressed agreement with the ideas advocated by Lamenna, a Christian socialist. But in 1841 Levi again expressed the same ideas, only this time in his "Religious and social teachings." Naturally, this entailed certain consequences. Constant was arrested and imprisoned in Saint-Pelage, accused of attacking property, as well as religious and public consciousness. In addition to the conclusion, he was also awarded a huge fine, which, due to the financial situation, he was simply unable to pay. Levi has been imprisoned for almost a year, but here he does not waste time in vain and gets acquainted in the prison library with the works of Swedenborg.

Period after imprisonment

After his release, he almost immediately releases his new book, which is called "The Mother of God." Churchmen talked about this work, that the author showed heavenly love is incorrect, because it is more like earthly feelings. After that, he completely renounces the church and the cassock. Among the works of Constant were also songs, which, it is worth noting, was approved by Beranger himself.

From mysticism to barricades

In 1845, Constant began a detailed study of literature related to the problems of modern social order and calling for the elimination of the inequality of society. An incredible amount of information was learned by Eliphas Levi. Magic and ritual interested him most. Over time, he devotes himself to political changes in the modern system. Levy at that time visited many republican political clubs and delivered many more speeches there, which led him to become acquainted with Pierre Leroux. After that, he met an eighteen-year-old girl, who immediately fell in love. Later, she will become known as a sculptor under the pseudonym of Claude Vignon, although her real name is Noemi Cadio.

A new conclusion

Because of cooperation with the opposition press, Eliphas again finds himself in prison. He was convicted of a pamphlet entitled The Voice of Hunger. After these events, there is a February uprising in which Levi takes an active part as a club speaker.

After the completion of these events, he miraculously managed to avoid being shot and remain alive. But this greatly suppressed his ardor, and he departed from political activities. Thanks to this, the acolyte and occultist returned to his former path, taking the pseudonym Eliphas Levi. Teaching and ritual interest and many modern surrealists.

Kabbalah

After getting to know Goen Wronsky, Constant changes his way of life, realizing in conversations with this person that Kabbalah is the main science of faith. Inspired, he creates a publication of dogmas and describes under his new pseudonym Eliphas Levi teaching and ritual of higher magic. This name is a translation of his real data into Hebrew. At the same time, he holds his famous challenge to the spirit of Apollonius of Tian, who was a great magician who lived in the first century. This is happening on the territory of London.

Old age and death

By the time of old Eliphas Levi, whose books are of interest to many surrealists, already had a lot of disciples and followers. Therefore, he no longer threatened poverty, because he received money for publishing a multitude of occult works. In addition, his students diligently looked after him and helped financially. May 31, 1875, the famous tarologist and magician died, becoming sick with dropsy. Therefore the last book of Eliphas Levi came out after his death. Her publication was taken up by one of his followers, Baron Spedalieri. It was thanks to this faithful disciple that the world saw a famous book called "The Key to the Great Arcana or the Unveiled Occult."

Eliphas Levi's "History of Magic"

One of the most significant books of this famous person was The History of Magic. The author was sure that people consider all manifestations of magic as charlatanism and insanity only because they do not know anything about it. For Levi, magic was no less significant science than algebra or geography. Therefore, in his book, he tried to maximally convey to the world how important this knowledge is and how to use them in practice. Levi believed that with the help of spells and secret rituals you can change your life at the root, become more successful and get more out of life. Therefore, to this day his treatises and teachings find their followers, and the deep knowledge of this "last magician" is transmitted from generation to generation. The main achievement of Levi was that he was able to convey the experience to his students and made the magic accessible to all. Apparently, his past contributed to this, where he participated with interest in the political life of the country and tried to achieve justice for all strata of the population.
