Freedom Tower: one of the main attractions of New York

The Freedom Tower in New York, the photo of which is presented below, is the main building in the Manhattan complex, known as the World Trade Center. The total area of the object exceeds the mark of 65 thousand square meters. The skyscraper was built in the north-western part of it. It should be noted that until 2001, there were twin towers here, which were tragically destroyed as a result of the terrorist attack. The whole world still remembers that case. To honor the memory of all those killed that day, the American government decided that the Tower of Freedom should be built on this site.

First projects

A few months after the destruction of the twin towers in the United States, a stormy discussion began about the further exploitation of the former territory. In 2002, the Administration of the Ports of New York and New Jersey, which was the owner of the rights to this land, to determine the ways to use the site announced an open tender. Numerous projects that were offered were perceived by the public as extremely negative. As a result, at the end of the same year the organization held another competition. His winner was the proposal of Daniel Libeskind. And his project was repeatedly revised in the future.

The final draft

The final view of the skyscraper was presented to the public in 2006. Almost immediately representatives of the New York police stated that the Freedom Tower should be better protected. In order to increase the safety of the structure, the designers decided to use concrete for the construction of the lower level. Its height was 57 meters. On the other hand, many critics insisted that this part of the skyscraper should not look like a bunker. To solve this problem, in the decoration of the facade are applied numerous elements of glass.

Building

The construction of the new structure began in December 2006, when the first steel columns were installed at its base. It is planned that three high office and one residential buildings will be built on the territory of the complex in the future. They want the city government to surround the open in 2011 memorial, dedicated to the tragic events. The final aspect in the construction was the installation of a metal spire. It weighs 758 tons and has a height of 124 meters. The Liberty Tower in New York was put into operation late last year. As of today, it is the tallest building in the US (541 meters including the spire).

Specificity

For office premises inside the tower is allocated about 241 thousand square meters. In total, there are 69 floors in the lower part of the skyscraper. Under the hall, whose height is 24 meters, there are technical floors that are intended for maintenance of the structure. At a mark of 341 meters, offices end. Above them, the builders provided for a few additional floors of technical designation. Further, as climbing, followed by the premises belonging to the City TV alliance. The stylized antenna-spire, installed on the roof of the building, has a symbolic meaning. The fact is that due to its presence, the Liberty Tower in New York reaches a height of 1776 feet. It was in this year that the declaration of US state independence was proclaimed. Observation areas with cafes and restaurants are equipped at an altitude of 415 and 417 meters.

Design Features

The Tower of Freedom has sides, the width of which in the base is different by 61 meters. Thus, the object is actually characterized by the same parameters as the twin towers that were destroyed in 2001. The exterior decoration of the skyscraper is made by several thousand glass elements, which are distinguished by a prism-like shape. In this regard, it seems that the building seems to be shining. It should be noted and the fact that the structure is very organically blended into the surrounding landscape. The construction of the facility was completed in late 2013, although it was commissioned a little later.

Interesting Facts

At the start of the preparatory work, before the installation of steel columns, a memorial inscription with the name of the building and the emblem of the national flag was attached to the skyscraper.

One of the most popular places in New York among travelers after the completion of construction work was the Tower of Freedom. Every year millions of tourists from all over the world and Americans make photos of this architectural masterpiece. It should be noted that the skyscraper is open for public visits, and from its viewing platforms a unique view of the city opens.

The building has a purely trade and office purpose. At the same time, the city government is currently considering the possibility of erecting in the near future several residential high-rises within the complex.

On one of the lower levels are specially equipped lobbies, due to which the Liberty Tower has a direct connection to the metro and the PATH railway lines.
