Fornication, uncleanness and lasciviousness is what? Biblical Lessons

Before we begin to develop this topic, let's take a look at Ozhegov's explanatory dictionary and see the designation of the word "lewdness" there. This word is quite outdated and denotes depravity and vile behavior. More recently, the moral standards of behavior in society were much higher than now. That which was obscene, sinful and reprehensible, today becomes an absolute norm, and even among believers who often do not recognize some of their sins, they do not repent, but in every possible way they seek an excuse.

But no matter how people try to disguise their sins under something else, from God to conceal all the same nothing will turn out.

Non-use in the Bible

Well, now turn to the bright pages of the wisest book - the Bible. In the Epistle to the Galatians, let us consider how God refers to the "works of the flesh". There we can read such lines in chapter 5 verse 19: "The deeds of the flesh are known; They are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. " The Apostle Paul gives a list of sexual uncleanliness. Everyone must take these words, analyze them and give themselves an honest answer: do we consider such a thing to be a sin, or is the modern society already so influenced by us that it is not worth thinking about it? And why? After all, life is short, but in the world there are so many temptations and pleasures, from which it is simply impossible to resist.

And yet, even with this "prosperity of all bad", sooner or later one will still have to think about what sin is, and what its consequences may be.

Adultery

Non-use is depraved behavior, otherwise - fornication and adultery, which in Greek sound like porneia. Under this word meant extramarital relationships, including homosexuality. A depraved woman was called pornos, even if she did not receive money for her services, doing just romantic pleasure and satisfying her sexual desire. So adultery is not only prostitutes, standing at night on the sidelines, but also any other women who enter into extramarital affairs.

A man can also use the word porneia when he enters into a sexual relationship with a woman outside of marriage. Even if he loves her, but because they are not married, so they are at the mercy of the sin of adultery. Such a woman is considered dissolute, and a man uses it to satisfy his lustful desires. Our modern people on this account have a completely different opinion and do not see this as anything bad and sinful.

Fornication and lasciviousness

Few people now think about what the term "pornography" means, but it came from that pornos (fornication and adultery) in the merger with the word grapho - to write. It's from here that it turns out that "pornography" is written texts or reflections on debauchery. When a person reads a text or looks at photos of sexual content, he, too, turns out to be engaged in adultery, though mentally.

This is what Jesus said: "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart" ("The Gospel of Matthew," chapter 5, verse 28).

In the very original of the Holy Scripture, adultery and fornication are indicated by one word - porneia, which includes in its concept all forms of sexual relations that occurred outside of marriage. But then the apostle Paul speaks of uncleanness.

Uncleanness

And what is meant by the words "impurity", "lewdness" and "lust"? And again we turn to the Greek translation of the Greek word akatharsia - impurity, obscenity, filth.

In the New Testament, too, this word is used, which emphasizes that all obscene and depraved begins with lascivious thoughts. Such a person was called an obscure spirit. What he will think about most of all, then he will possess it, become his master. Therefore, such a person must first of all awaken in himself all the forces to control his thoughts and not think about something dirty and depraved.

Non-use - what is it?

And now, actually, about the most important on our topic. So, lewdness is what is, and how to understand it literally. The very word, again, in Greek sounds like an aselgeia and denotes intemperance, indiscipline and extravagance leading to dissolute life. This word is in the list of sins, because of which the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed .

Non-use (whose meaning we have already deciphered) also applies to intemperance in food. In the sight of God, delicacies and excesses in food, these are the same perversions. However, again, we do not want to see anything reprehensible in this.

But God is merciful and can forgive the deeds of the flesh, but for this, man must realize his sin and repent for him before the Supreme Creator. The penitent sinner should ask the Holy Spirit to help see the sinful deeds of the flesh through the eyes of God, and only then can one become aware of his sin and his disgusting and pernicious essence. After this, you no longer want to repeat your mistakes, and life will necessarily begin to change for the better.

Forgiveness from the Lord

So, indecency is what? And this is sin! It must be noted that a frank confession to God brings forgiveness. For people who have been insulted by your actions, you must also pray that God will send them and the grace of forgiveness, so that you can establish good relations with them. We must not forget that the Lord is love, good and forgiveness. Open your heart and soul to God and fill them with the Holy Spirit, which is the main protector and helper of man from all unclean and evil.
