Flag of Singapore and its history

Singapore is a rich state in southeast Asia, known for its harsh laws and a high standard of living. Independence was acquired by the country relatively recently, and therefore all the symbolism arose in the middle of the twentieth century. So the flag of Singapore appeared only in 1959.

The Banner of the Nation

Singapore for a long time was one of the British colonies in southeast Asia. The United Kingdom took the island under its control in 1819, only in 1959, removing custody from the state. Thus, it is not surprising that all these 140 years Union Jack was the flag of Singapore, a photo and image of which is familiar, probably, to every inhabitant of the planet.

After getting rid of the British before the nation, the question arose of how to exist further. Of course, it was decided to create their own state symbols. Thus, on December 3, 1959, the flag of Singapore was adopted, which reached the present day. However, the state itself for 6 years was part of Malaysia, finally deciding to get rid of any dependence on anyone only in 1965, because of the conflict with its northern neighbor.

Description and meaning

The color scheme of the country's main symbol represents a combination of two colors: red and white. The top part of the flag is painted first, the lower one is the second one. In addition, there is a white crescent on the banner, which is bordered by five stars located to the right of it.

According to the state's interpretation, the flag of Singapore has the following meaning:

• Red color symbolizes equality and brotherhood of people who inhabit the country.
• White means virtue and purity.
• The crescent embodies the idea of the rapid development of the young state.
• For five stars, the roles of the ideals of the nation are fixed: justice, democracy, peace, equality and progress.

Curious facts

Initially, the flag of Singapore was three stars, but the country's leadership felt that such a banner would be associated with the symbols of the Communists of Malaysia, having a similar standard. This was very undesirable, since the state with all its might tried to discard the Marxist ideals, so that two more pentagonal figures were added.

The flag is obliged again to the Communists for the inclusion of the white strip. Since the majority of the population of Singapore are Chinese, the official color of the country's flag is red, it is not surprising that the flag of this state wanted to do in this tone. However, afraid of strong associations with the Communist parties of different countries, the government of the state decided to add a white strip, dispelling all doubts about the democratic path of the young nation.

Singapore is a very young state, but with an established symbolism and form of government. It is the correct landmarks laid down in the creation of the country that helped the nation break out of the third world into a higher cohort.
