Expectorants for children

No matter how hard we try, it's not always possible to protect the child from colds. Very often after a normal winter walk, the baby begins to cough. Expectorants for children are different: synthetic and natural. Consider the most common of them.

Firstly, it is, of course, nursing fees, they refer to natural remedies. There are three types.

There are synthetic expectorants for children. Among them the following are usually appointed:

1) Medicinal product "ACTS". This drug directly affects the sputum, which causes its dilution and eventually coughing stops. It should be noted that this agent dilutes sputum of any origin, whether it is mucous or purulent. Dosage the drug based on the age of the child. So, children from 2 to 5 years are given a drug three times for 100 mg. From 6 years of age and up to 14 years, children are given 200 mg of the drug 2 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician.

2) The drug Ambroxol. Produced in the form of tablets with a dosage of active substance in 30 mg. In addition, the drug can be found in the form of a syrup and a solution for inhalation. Assign 7.5 mg for children under 5 years of age, 15 mg for older children (5 to 12 years), then 30 mg. At any age, the drug is given three times.

Expectorants for children should be washed down with plenty of any liquid. Thus, the effect occurs more quickly, especially in order to dilute sputum, a liquid is needed.

As for inhalations, for children under 5 years of age, use 2 ml of Ambroxol medication according to the attached instructions up to 2 times a day. Children older than 5 years of age - 3 ml a couple of times a day.

There is one more detailed preparation - "Lazolvan". It is also available in the form of syrup, tablets and a solution for inhalation. Children often prescribe children's syrup, a teaspoonful of 3 meals a day. The course of treatment is established by the pediatrician.

3) The drug "Bromgeksin." This drug is certainly familiar to many, since it is used since Soviet times. It is produced either in the form of syrup, or in the form of tablets. Promotes the sputum discharge.

Children under 2 years of age are prescribed pills of 2 mg for 3 doses per day, children from 2 to 6 years of age - 4 mg, children from 6 to 10 years - 6-8 mg of the drug, and adolescents over 10 years - 8 mg, multiplicity is the same - 3 doses per day. Syrup is prescribed 2-3 teaspoons based on the child's age.

Many parents believe that expectorants for children of natural origin are much more effective and safer than synthetic ones. But it is not always the case. Vegetable components of natural preparations can cause allergy in young children, which will add to the problems. Therefore, pediatricians do not recommend self-medication, it is safer to seek help from a nearby medical clinic.
