Eucalyptus tincture - an indispensable remedy for colds

Why is eucalyptus tincture so popular all over the world? It is made on an alcohol basis (70% ethyl alcohol). This transparent, greenish-brown liquid, which has a very specific smell, is well known to many. Rarely there is a house in which at least once this medication was not.

It has special pharmacological properties: it contains tannins, resins, flavonoids, waxes, ellagic acid, essential oils (eucalyptus), which contain terpenic compounds that destroy gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and adversely affect protozoa and fungi. Eucalyptus effectively suppresses the growth of staphylococci, tuberculous mycobacteria, escherichia, trichomonads, dysentery amoebae. The main component of this essential oil is a complex substance - cineolmonocyclic terpene. Eucalyptus - tincture has a strong disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic effect, which is due to the oxidative effect of terpenes, as well as anti-inflammatory effect, which is associated with virtually all substances present in its composition. The drug has a calming (sedative) effect.

Indications for the use of eucalyptus are inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx, the respiratory tract, the oral cavity (laryngitis, tracheitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis, gingivitis), skin damage (infected wounds), mild neurotic disorders (emotional lability, irritability, sleep disturbance).

There are also special warnings in the use of this medication. Due to the fact that it contains ethyl alcohol, this drug is not recommended for use by pregnant and lactating mothers. For the same reason, it can not be used when driving vehicles or when working with potentially dangerous devices.

Eucalyptus tincture has its contraindications. These include hypersensitivity to substances contained in the drug, and the age of children under 12 years (the latter refers to ingestion).

Most often, eucalyptus tincture is used for steam inhalations and for mouth and throat rinsing. Recommended doses for adults: 4 times 15-30 drops after meals. The dose for children is much less: 4 times 1 drop per lived year.

Rinses of the throat and oral cavity are carried out by a solution of 15 drops of the agent with 200 ml of boiled warm water.

For inhalation inhalers use inhalers of different types. For this procedure, use undiluted eucalyptus tincture. If there is no inhaler, you can use this remedy with the old-time method: add 15 drops of the drug to 2 liters of hot water. Deeply inhale vapors of eucalyptus, covered with a dense cloth or towel. Usually, this procedure is carried out for 10 minutes.

With a strong sensitivity to the components of the drug, various side effects can occur, such as allergic reactions in the form of rashes on the skin, redness, itching and swelling of Quincke; Contact dermatitis appearing on the lips. When these reactions occur, stop taking the drug. This tincture can be stored under optimal conditions for up to 5 years.
