Elevated eosinophils in the child: what does it say?

If a person has elevated levels of eosinophils, this can be due to a number of reasons. Among the most common are the following:

  1. In the body there are parasites (as a rule, these are worms).
  2. Banal allergy. It is especially common in families where pets are kept - dogs, cats, hamsters or ferrets.

Elevated eosinophils in a child are observed mainly because babies are very fond of picking things off the floor or the ground and dragging them into the mouth. Recently, the ecological situation is getting worse and worse, scientists every year establish the existence of ever new varieties of pathogens. Is it any wonder that catching an infection is so easy?

Manifestations

Up to a certain point, increased eosinophils in a child may not appear at all. Many parents learn about this during a survey with a pediatrician. The danger is that over time the baby can have serious health problems.

Diagnostics

Experts advise: if the results of the tests revealed too high a level of eosinophils, do not panic. It is advisable to donate blood to platelets, monocytes and other components. Only after that it will be possible to talk about the causes, diagnosis and treatment.

Diseases of adults

So, elevated eosinophils in a child are explained quite simply. But what about the adults? In most cases, the cause is the same as that of babies: fungi, worms, other infections. However, there are several other factors. In modern medicine, it is common to distinguish eight groups of probable causes of this pathology:

  1. Problems with the stomach and intestines. This includes all kinds of diseases of these two organs, as well as liver diseases.
  2. Endocrinology.
  3. Cardiovascular diseases (especially heart disease).
  4. Weak lungs and bronchi.
  5. Skin diseases (eczema, dermatitis, allergic reactions).
  6. Weakened immunity.
  7. Oncology. A tumor developing in the body, malignant or benign, can also provoke elevated eosinophils in a child.
  8. Various infections.

It is clear that in each specific case, it is practically impossible to establish the cause of the problem. That is why it is so important to hand over all the tests in a timely manner. By the way, the opposite situation is widespread: the level of eosinophils in the blood may be too low. What does this mean?

Low level

In medicine, this phenomenon is designated by the term "eosinopenia". If, for example, the baby is elevated with eosinophils, the cause may be mass. If their level is lowered, the answer is only one: the patient has recently had a serious illness or is ill right now. The fact is that these leukocytes take an active part in protecting the body. If they were not enough, then they were involved in the destruction of the foreign protein, absorbing it and dissolving it with its enzymes. By the way, there is such a phenomenon as aneosinophilia. It is characterized by the total absence of eosinophils in the human blood and occurs with typhoid fever, sepsis.
