Does the fern flower? The magic flower of the fern is a beautiful legend or the truth?

Many peoples have a belief about a plant that will bring happiness and wealth to its owner. It is not an easy task to find this miracle flower, but possessing it guarantees unquestionable luck in all undertakings. Whether the fern really blossoms , or not, but the legend lives up to now, and the happiness that it promises is a worthy reward for the search.

Beautiful legend

Once upon a time, the god of the Moon and the Fire of Semargl fell in love with each other and the mistress of the night the Bathing-place, the goddess of incredible beauty. They could not have met. Semargle stood guard over the world in heaven with a fiery sword, guarding the Earth from evil forces. Only once, Ognebog could not give up his love and on the day of the autumnal equinox came down to his beloved. From that night the night gradually increases, gradually recovering the moments of the Sun. After the due time, the Bathhouse granted the beloved. Kupala and Kostroma were born. It happened on the day of the summer solstice. Uncle of the newborns, one of the brothers-gods of Svarozhich, Perun, presented the twins with an amazing gift - an extraordinary strength and beauty of the flower, having invested in it a particle of his divine gift. Approximately at this time still celebrate the Sun, Summer and Fire, therefore it is on the night of Ivan Kupala that the fern blossoms.

The origin of the belief

If to argue from the point of view of science, one can find available explanations for the legend of a mythical flower. In summer, in the forest, and especially on the banks of streams, where the fern predominantly grows, various insects, including fireflies, live and multiply in abundance. Perhaps their glowing people were mistaken for a fire-flower. And if we add to this the well-known information that some plants in the forest and marshy lowlands can produce and accumulate poisonous fumes, which intoxicate the human brain, then a reasonable version of the belief about whether the fern blooms is found. Perhaps visual hallucinations are a sensible explanation, but the beauty of the ancient tradition is fascinating. And in our time, luck hunters are not averse to checking in a mysterious night for Ivan Kupala, whether the fern is actually blooming.

Data

Fern belongs to very ancient plants, prefers to live where there is high humidity. It is distinguished by a large variety of species - more than 10 thousand, among them there are herbaceous and tree-like classes of ferns. An important feature is a large number of elongated leaves, assembled into a rosette, outwardly resembling the feathers of a bird. Scales covering the leaves protect the plant from the cold. Some specimens throw out an inflorescence-like arrow with spores, partly similar to an ordinary-looking flower. Maybe this raises doubts about the truthfulness of the legend and questions about whether the fern is in blossom?

Reproduction

Asexual reproduction of ferns is carried out by spores, which can be detected as brown dots on the back of the leaves in sporangia. Ripening, they are thrown out into the external environment. This unusual plant is a representative of the flora, which as a result of life processes does not produce seeds.

The search for a miracle flower

So does the fern flower? Even if we admit that the legend is plausible, then how can we find it? It turns out that everything is not so simple. Anyone can go on a quest, but only an endearing daredevil can find it, and only a pure soul can save it. An ancient belief states that a blossoming fern is deep in the forest, in untrodden dalas, under the protection of evil spirits. If with what the brave man should seek with clear thoughts, everything is clear, then the terms cause a lot of questions. It seems to be all certain: Ivan Kupala is honored from the 6th to the 7th of July, but the fern blossoms at night for the holiday, which means the necessary time is the night of July 8th? If you believe the old calendar, this day is the summer solstice (still an important argument in favor of the legend). But the Day of John the Baptist, a Christian holiday that replaced the pagan, is celebrated on July 22. So, the search period is very fuzzy, and the belief says that the flower lives one night. If, nevertheless, the search process turned out to be successful, an unknown fiasco should be expected. The evil spirits guarding the miracle color, will try in any way to prevent it from being torn down. Even if, having overcome all obstacles, it will be possible to obtain a wonderful plant, it is not known what to do with it further. It is clearly said that its owner will be accompanied by luck, all wishes will be fulfilled, while Perunov color is in the hands of the lucky beggar.

Such a beautiful belief exists among many peoples on all continents. It has long been known that all ancient legends are not without a share of truth. Perhaps, in our case, there is a species that multiplies not only by disputes. Or is it a false flower without seeds. Or it blossoms once in a hundred years. It is possible to discuss the theory of flowering for a long time. It is known for sure - mankind dreams of happiness at all times, and tales and traditions give hope for the realization of their cherished desire.
