Design, running and engine "Niva Chevrolet"

The new suspension, gearbox, steering, brakes, interior, the design of the bodywork and, of course, the modern Niva-Chevrolet engine - GM is able to surprise its Russian consumers. This happened for the first time at the beginning of the two thousandth and is expected again - in 2016, after the beginning of the expected serial production of "Chevy" -2.

History of the model

At the Moscow Motor Show in 1998, AvtoVAZ management presented a new model of the old Niva. It was assumed that this version would replace the old one, but the group did not have enough money for mass production. Then it was decided to sell it to the North American corporation General Motors.

By the beginning of 2002, engineers, designers and designers had developed and launched a completely different car, called Chevrolet-Niva, into mass production. The new model favorably differed from its predecessor, which was not subjected to restyling for 24 years.

Initially, it was assumed that the modern version would replace the "old lady", but after evaluating its provisional cost, it turned out that Chevy was almost twice as expensive as its prototype. Despite the fact that many Russians appreciated the domestic SUV "Niva-Chevrolet" with dignity, the price was unattainable for some of them. Thus, the management of AvtoVAZ decided to keep both models, which, incidentally, are popular now.

Specifications

The modern Niva-Chevrolet engine is adapted to the 92nd gasoline. The presence of four cylinders completely provides the car with traction in any lifts, despite the fact that the declared equipped weight is 1410 kg, and fully loaded "Chevy" weighs a little less than two tons.

Separately, we can single out a small fuel consumption of the car - 10.4 liters per 100 km in a mixed type (route - 8.5 liters, city - 13.9 liters). It should be borne in mind that he has a permanent all-wheel drive for all 4 wheels, implemented through the interaxle-locked differential. It is especially worth noting that at this expense the capacity of the Niva-Chevrolet is sufficient and does not allow us to say that the engine is rather weak.

The length of the car by 48 mm exceeds the four-meter mark. Together with excellent ground clearance this makes it optimal for use both in urban conditions and in the total absence of road surface.

Does the valves break?

For the owners of the car separately, it should be added that there is no timing belt in it, instead of it there is a chain. But this does not guarantee that when it is stretched or broken it does not bend the valve. "Niva-Chevrolet" due to the lack of a belt is somewhat protected from the rupture, well, if the metal of the chain or "plates" does not survive, there will be more problems. The following are the possible damages:

  • The valves will bend together with the guides.
  • The cover may be damaged.
  • The hydraulic puller will fail.
  • The expansion joints will be damaged.

And this is not all the problems that can arise when the chain of timing in the chain "Shevi-Niva". Therefore, you need to carefully monitor the level and quality of the oil in the engine and the condition and tension of the chain itself.

Off-road quality increases the two-stage distribution, which has an interaxle differential with forced locking.

The trick, adapted for domestic operation

Some advantage over imported analogs is a small volume of the power unit, equal to 1.7 liters and the power indicated in the PTS, 80 horsepower. Russian insurers and the taxation system after exceeding the 100-strong limit increase the calculation coefficients. Thus, the economical engine of the Niva-Chevrolet with such power equals it in these criteria to passenger cars: Kalina or Grant.

Restyling in 2009

Until 2015, VAZ 2123 is produced without serious restyling. Only in 2009, a small modification of the Chevrolet-Niva car was made, the new model of which was not much different from the previous one: it received updated bumpers and a radiator grille, as well as tail lights and plastic covers on the door. On this, the differences from the previous version end.

The gearbox, suspension and engine "Niva-Chevrolet" remained unchanged. But the braking system and steering can be said the opposite. The new hydraulic booster produced in Germany, as well as the Valeo brake amplification system, have increased comfort and quality in the management of the domestic SUV.

Restyling of 2016: "Shevi-Niva" -2

The global crisis affected the start of the serial production of the Niva-Chevrolet -2. The expected launch of the pipeline in 2016 may be delayed somewhat. Everything depends on the situation on the world market. But, despite the fact that the model is not yet on sale, much is known about it.

At first glance at the car, it seems that the look was restyled. The car began to look more aggressive and grew 25 cm in length. The hood of the model is now integrated with the radiator grille and elongated "sharpened" optics. The skewed and volumetric front bumper with depressed fog lights slightly protrudes forward. This underlines the predatory mood of the model.

Restyling Niva-Chevrolet, the price for which has not yet been announced, will be presented in several variations with a rich selection of additional options:

  • Automatic transmission;
  • A rear-view mirror and a heated front windshield;
  • Headlight washers;
  • Parktronic;
  • Climate or air conditioning for the buyer's choice;
  • Electric window lifters for all side windows;
  • Multimedia system.

And this is not all the declared advantages of the new version, the most comfortable and expected domestic SUV. It remains only to wait for its premiere release for sale and to check personally the quality of the expected model.
