Dargera thyroid: description, cultivation, care

About the pettifillum thyroid, or dummer, in our country learned relatively recently. The overseas plant was immediately appreciated by landscape designers, as the thyroid dwarf differs unpretentiousness, well tolerates winter frosts. In addition, pettifillum is not only a flowering plant, but also a deciduous and deciduous plant. What is a dwarf thyroid (photo of leaves and flowers are presented below in the article)? How to grow this unusual plant on your site?

Description

The unusual nature of the pettifillum is that during the spring and summer its appearance changes markedly. The first flower appears: the thyroid dwarf blooms quite early, around the end of April or early May. On tall peduncles reddish-brown shade loose curly inflorescences, consisting of small pinkish flowers. Plants in this period reach a height of 50 cm to a meter. Leaves in this case is almost not visible - they grow after the dwarf thyroid begins to fade.

The leaves of the plant are rounded, with large finger-shaped veins, under favorable conditions grow tall lush bushes. The diameter of each sheet can reach from 50 to 90 cm. The exception is a miniature variety Nanum, whose leaves do not grow more than 45 cm.

The color of the "summer" pettifillum is saturated green on shaded areas or pale green if the dwarf grows under the open sun. In autumn, the leaves of the bush change color, acquiring a red-crimson shade with interspersed yellow or orange. In this form of the dwarf, the thyroid adorns the garden plot until the first frost.

How to choose a suitable place in the garden?

Choose a site on which the thyroid dwarf will feel most comfortable, should be based on the natural habitat of the bush. This gentle flower comes from the west coast of the USA, namely from the mountain regions of California and Oregon. Most often, pettifillum occurs on the shore of clean water bodies, rivers and lakes. For this reason, it is considered an ideal plant for decorating a pond in a garden plot.

If there is no open source of water on the site, the petifillum will need regular copious irrigation. It is important at the same time that there is no stagnation of water, otherwise the root of the plant will quickly rot. Therefore, the place on which the pettifillum will be planted should be well ventilated and ensure sufficient flow of irrigation water.

In addition to a large amount of moisture, successful growth of shrubs depends on sunlight. Dharmer thyroid can grow in the shade and under direct sunlight, but in the latter case, strong illumination leads to the fact that leaves and flowers grow smaller.

In a large amount of sunlight, the petifillum needs only in the spring, when the inflorescences are formed, so the proximity of broad-leaved shrubs or trees whose leaves will be protected from the sun only in the summer will be a good neighborhood for the dummer. In addition to shrubs and trees, the pettifillum feels well in tandem with shade-loving perennials, such as the host, rodgersia, anemone and others.

Soil preparation

What other conditions should be created to ensure that the garden plot has a dwarf thyroid? Planting and caring for this plant begins with soil preparation and fertilization. In natural conditions, the plant luxuriantly grows on slightly acidic, loose ground. A similar medium can be created using a substrate with a PH level of 5 to 7. The plant will also get well in a mixture of garden land with soil from the forest. Before planting the plant, organic fertilizers are introduced into the soil.

Planting Darfur

Darmer can be propagated by two simple methods: separation of the rhizome or seeds. Before planting the seed material in the ground, it is necessary to conduct a preliminary stratification, that is, to stand in a humid environment at a sufficiently cool temperature of +4 ... + 6 о С for three or four weeks.

Vegetative (root) reproduction is much easier. Peltifillum has a core rhizome, which over several years grows and begins to give additional viable rootlets. To propagate shrubs dharma plant should be digged, divided the rhizome and two hours to stand in the solution of the drug-fungicide. Further, the plant is planted in a prepared fertilized soil. Plus this method is that planted in autumn plant in the next spring will fully bloom.

Watering, top dressing

Frequent and regular watering is an important condition for the normal growth of moisture-loving dwarfs. When watering, as already mentioned, it is important not to allow stagnation of water to avoid rot or mold.

Top dressing with organic and mineral fertilizers is required to carry out pettifillum regularly, from early spring to autumn. It is enough to water the plant with liquid mineral fertilizer at least once a month. Liquid organics can be added more often - once every two weeks. During active development and growth, from the day of shoots to the beginning of flowering, the dwarf needs to be fed with dry organic fertilizers. For these purposes, both purchased mixtures and natural fertilizers are suitable: dry chicken manure, deciduous humus, dried manure.

Wintering plants, additional care

Darmera is able to overwinter well in the ground, if in time to protect it from frost. To do this, cut off the aboveground part, mulch the root part with a layer of compost and carefully cover the plant with dry sawdust, straw or a layer of fallen leaves. At low temperatures it is recommended to cover the dummer with a layer of snow.

In spring, after removing the cover layer, the petifillum should be watered with any fungicide preparation. In addition, it is not required to process the dar- mer from pests or diseases of the flora.
