Correct pruning of cherries in autumn

Many gardeners note that the tree that gives tasty juicy berries is very moody and fragile enough. Therefore, pruning cherries in autumn is a very important, but troublesome business. Properly conducted procedure will significantly increase the volume of the future harvest and extend the overall life of the tree.

If you need a large, fleshy cherry - planting and care, pruning - these are the main milestones of growing the plant. Usually the removal of superfluous and dead branches falls in the spring, but experienced summer residents spend it even in late autumn, so that the tree is already in the winter "sleep" mode. But it should be noted that most gardeners still believe that at the end of the year it is necessary to cut only dry, infected or broken branches. Also, the reason for an urgent autumn procedure can become an unnecessarily dense crown, which prevents the ripening of numerous red berries. Thus, the timing of pruning can occur in spring, autumn, and in some cases even in early winter.

It must be remembered that the bark of this tree is extremely thin, so severe frosts can ruin fresh wounds. Pruning cherries in the fall becomes the most popular option, due to moderate temperatures and the stability of the internal processes of the tree. The method of removing excess branches is selected according to the plant variety. Usually, two most common types of cherries are distinguished: tree-like and bushy. The first grades include the popular Lotov and the noble, tart English early. Bush-shaped cherries include a variety of tasty, small, but abundant fruit-bearing species that begin to yield harvests as early as the second or third year. However, in just 12 years the plant practically ceases to give berries, which will now mature only on young shoots.

Pruning cherries in autumn is usually characteristic of tree-like varieties, since their life is obviously longer and without removing excess branches the harvest will be simply inconvenient to harvest. Planning to do the formation of the crown, it is worth remembering that the best form for such trees is considered discharged and tiered. When pruning branches try to arrange in a spiral, around the trunk - this will ensure reliable air conduction and access of light to all parts of the plant. Bush-like varieties prefer burr-free forms, that is, they simply need to leave 7-9 main branches with their young shoots. If everything is done neatly and quickly, you can expect to get a plentiful harvest for the next season.

Tree-like varieties are formed once in 3-4 years, only remove unnecessary dry or broken branches, on which nothing will grow. Pruning cherries in autumn significantly rejuvenates the plant, and the need for the next procedure is determined by reducing the annual natural growth of branches. Bush-like varieties require intensive thinning of the tree crown, thus, significant rejuvenation of the whole tree and an increase in yield are achieved. If cherry is the favorite fruit in the family, then you need to take care of the plants and the good ways of preserving. The best option for bush varieties is the sap of juices, and tree representatives give a good berry "for food".
