Coat of arms and flag of the Rostov Region

Each of the subjects of the Russian Federation has its own history, which is reflected in its semantics. The coat of arms and the flag of the Rostov region - what are they? And what is the meaning of them? The main symbols of this area will be discussed in this article.

Briefly about the Rostov region

The administrative unit called "Rostov Region" was established in 1937. It is located in the extreme south-west of our country. The capital of the region is the glorious city of Rostov-on-Don.

The relief of the region is flat with average heights of 150-200 meters. The territory is densely cut with beams and ravines, which create in places beautiful landscapes! Hydrographic grid of the region is represented by the largest European river Don, as well as its largest tributaries - Manych and Seversky Donets. Within the region is a huge artificial lake - Tsimlyansk reservoir. In the west, the region has access to the shallowest sea of the planet - Azov.

The territory of the Rostov region is characterized by a classic temperate continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters with frequent strong frosts. Precipitation a year falls a little (300-500 mm), and most of them are in the summer period of the year.

A kind of symbol of the Rostov region is the steppe. There are very few forests here, they make up about 2.8% of the total territory.

In the Rostov region, there are 4.3 million people. By the way, this is more than in many European countries. This region is multinational and multicultural. So, here you can hear both Russian speech, and Ukrainian or Armenian. Over one hundred different nationalities live peacefully on this beautiful land.

Now we will get acquainted with the main symbols of this region. The coat of arms, the flag of the Rostov region - what are they? And what is their story?

Coat of Arms of Rostov Region

Let us first consider the coat of arms of the Rostov Region. It is represented by a traditional heraldic shield. On it, on a blue background, is a silver pillar with a red castle wall consisting of three towers, and with a golden wheatle ear below. On the sides of the column are located (criss-crossed) the historical Don Kleinods: pernovach, bobyl tail, bunchuk (on the left side) and mace, insect and bunchuk (on the right side).

Above the shield is guarded by a large double-headed eagle of black color with three Russian royal crowns, decorated with blue ribbons. Behind the wings of the eagle, you can also see the flags of the region's flags.

This remarkable coat of arms was developed by Alexei Kurmanovsky and approved in 1996. The historical coat of arms of the Great Don Army served as the basis for it.

Flag of the Rostov Region

The second symbol of the region, as you have already noticed, is also present on the official coat of arms of the region.

The flag of the Rostov region (you can see the photo below) was born back in May of 1918. But officially approved it was October 28, 1996, together with the coat of arms.

The flag of the Rostov region was developed by the ataman of the Vsevolik Donskoi Army. It has a traditional rectangular shape (the ratio of two to three sides) and consists of three horizontal stripes and one vertical - white (left). The upper band of the flag is blue, the middle is yellow, and the lower one is red. All horizontal stripes of the flag are equivalent in size.

The vertical strip of white color, located on the left, at the flagpole, was added already in our time, in 1996. It occupies 20 percent of the entire width of the panel.

Semantics of the colors of the flag of the Rostov Region

What do the colors of the banner of the region symbolize? What is the significance of the flag of the Rostov region?

The meaning of the colors of this symbol is the identification of those peoples who from the very beginning populated these lands from the Don. So, the blue band on the flag symbolizes the Don Cossacks, the yellow one - the Kalmyks, and the red one - of the Russians. Thus, the colors of the flag in the complex symbolize the unity and mutual understanding between all the peoples inhabiting the region. After all, at this time, here live and Ukrainians, and Armenians, and Azerbaijanis, and other peoples.

But what does the vertical white stripe mean, which was supplemented with the flag of the Rostov Region in 1996? It turns out that the strip of white color is nothing but a symbol of the unity of the Rostov region with the rest of the Russian Federation formed after the collapse of the USSR.

Glorious city of Rostov: photos, flag and town's coat of arms

Rostov-on-Don is the administrative center of the region, a major city of the country with a population of over one million people (2.8 million, considering the number of inhabitants in the entire Rostov agglomeration).

Rostov-on-Don is often referred to as the "southern capital" of Russia. It is a very important scientific, cultural and industrial center of the Russian Federation. Its role is also high in the transport aspect. In fact, Rostov-on-Don connects Russia in the north with the Caucasian region in the south. The city on the Don was founded in 1749 and has a glorious history.

Of course, there is a city of Rostov and its official symbols: the flag and the coat of arms.

The flag of the city is a traditional-size cloth (2: 3), which is divided exactly in the middle by a vertical line into two parts. The left one is blue and the right one is red. The blue color symbolizes the glory and honor of the Rostovites, and the red symbolizes their strength and courage, many times manifested as in the fields of various battles, as well as in the fields of agricultural, and also in the walls of city factories.

In the center of the city flag there is a shield of the small coat of arms of Rostov: on the left - a defensive tower in two tiers and with a closed gate, and on the right - the armor of an ancient warrior with a helmet, bow and spear. The small coat of arms is edged with a white line.

The same shield is depicted on the large coat of arms of the city. Above it is crowned with a large imperial crown and on both sides is decorated with a green oak branch into which a ribbon of red is woven.

The coat of arms of the city of Rostov was officially approved in 1996, and the flag - two years later - in 1998.

Finally...

The Rostov region of Russia is a kind of cultural "mix" of different peoples and ethnic groups that has developed historically. And all these peoples live in peace and full mutual understanding with each other. And it is this feature that is laid and displayed in the official symbols of the region.
