Chrysanthemum globular: cultivation, reproduction, care. Spherical Korean chrysanthemums. How to keep chrysanthemum in winter

Gardening is an amazingly entertaining and aesthetically pleasing occupation. While cultivating beautiful flowering plants, you not only decorate your household plot, but also develop your creative thinking.

A special place in the list of the most beautiful plants for the garden is chrysanthemum globular. Beginners literally lose their gift of speech after seeing its perfectly round shape and luxurious, juicy colors. Despite its relatively small size (the height of the bush rarely reaches 50 cm), it is simply stunningly beautiful.

Why are these flowers so popular with gardeners?

But not only with their fabulous appearance these flowers won the hearts of gardeners:

  • Unlike other varieties, they often bloom even in late August, delighting the growers all autumn.
  • Due to their unique genetic properties and constant breeding, they generally do not require any pruning and molding: the bush shape acquires completely independently. But some experts say that it is more useful to pinch the tops when they appear on the order of four pairs of leaves. However, in 90% of cases the event is not necessary, since the necessary outlines of chrysanthemum globular will acquire without your intervention.
  • In addition to the garden and garden, the bushes of this amazing plant feel great even on the windowsill, being planted in flower pots. In short, they are everywhere able to become a real decoration of the terrain, attracting admiring glances.

The only obstacle for newcomers is their wintering, which requires certain conditions and attentiveness.

Cultivation and care

Of course, this beauty needs a certain care. To be frightened it is not necessary: anything fantastic these plants do not differ. However, this does not at all eliminate the fact that the rules of their agricultural practices should be strictly followed. So you will achieve the most impressive results.

Where and how to land

The most difficult thing is to choose a site: in the chrysanthemum garden, the spherical must be planted in a sunny place with a good and loose soil, in which there will be no stagnant phenomena.

Saplings should be planted at the earliest possible time, as this is the condition for their rapid growth and early flowering. In the middle band, the most optimal landing time is the beginning of May (provided the weather is warm enough). If there is a chance of frost, then the bushes should be covered with cut plastic bottles.

It is best when you have the opportunity to add special fertilizers for chrysanthemums to the planting holes. It is obligatory to carry out top dressing in the phase of tying buds.

To do this, choose fertilizers containing mainly phosphorus and potassium (you can use the banal superphosphate). Fans of organic farming can be advised by the simplest infusion of ash.

Watering

In general, the cultivation of globular chrysanthemums depends largely on the weather this year. Especially strongly depends on this factor watering (which is not surprising). So, if the summer turned out to be arid, then the bushes will have to be irrigated every day, while in the rainy season they absolutely do not need watering.

The soil near the roots should always be moderately moist, but constant dampness and stagnation of water should not be tolerated in any case.

Some remarks

If we talk about the southern regions where the chrysanthemum globular may well overwinter in the ground, then it is absolutely not recommended to allow its vegetation in one place for more than two seasons: the plants degenerate and lose their unique round shape. That is, every two years they still have to be removed from the ground, divided and transplanted.

Reproduction

We have already said that even the most inexperienced gardeners can easily cope with the requirements that globular chrysanthemums can present. Reproduction is no exception.

In April, the plants should be removed from the basement (where they should be stored in winter), sprinkle with water and wait for the germination to begin. When the first young buds begin to blossom on the bushes, they can begin to be divided. This approach is good because reproduction is combined with rejuvenation of the bush.

To do this the more important that old plants practically lose their decorative properties (we have already written about this above). Even if only one kidney will germinate on the cut off part, it will yield a full plant, the beauty of which will please you in a few months.

Immediately after the division, young bushes should be planted in the ground or in pots. The last one is executed if you want to have stunning beautiful indoor flowers (we also mentioned this).

Note that the spherical chrysanthemum, the photo of which is in the article, easily reproduces by means of cuttings. It's upsetting simply: after cutting, the stalk is placed in a glass with water and waiting for the appearance of roots. You can even immediately land it in the ground, taking care of the light shading of this area from direct sunlight.

A bit about the "Koreans"

Despite the general unpretentiousness of this variety of flowering plants, even among them there are varieties that are particularly suitable for cultivation under our conditions. This is a globular Korean chrysanthemum.

This variety refers to hybrid. It is divided into several types. The first group includes curb varieties, the height of which does not exceed 30 cm. They are ideal for decorating the infield area, since they differ very early in flowering, almost complete lack of rooting and the most spherical shape of the bush.

The second type is medium-sized chrysanthemum, whose height reaches about 50 cm. Extremely decorative, as among the plants of this group there are varieties with extremely diverse coloring of the inflorescences.

They are great for creating a variety of group compositions. Unlike the first group, they can be used for cutting. In addition, they can well be cultivated as indoor plants.

The third group includes all tall varieties. They are distinguished later by flowering, large inflorescence. Great for large areas. Despite its impressive size, the bush is quite compact.

«Multiflora»

This variety is not as resistant to frost, but it has its advantages. These chrysanthemums refer to medium-sized varieties, rarely reach 50 cm. Because of this, they can be recommended for the design of flower beds and even cultivation at home.

In general, globular chrysanthemums of "Multiflora" differ with a smart choice of shades and a comparatively fast vegetation period (in short, they blossom quickly). In addition, the "Multiflora" is the most correct globular shape, so these plants can be safely recommended for creating complex decorative compositions.

Wintering

We have already said repeatedly that it is this stage that can give the beginning gardener certain difficulties. This is so, but when following the simplest rules and your mindfulness, there's nothing wrong with that.

We have already mentioned that wintering in open ground conditions is allowed only in the southern regions. Even in Ukraine it will be necessary to arrange basic shelters, protecting plants from possible frosts.

In conditions of the domestic middle belt, it is absolutely necessary to excavate the faded bushes in October, without waiting for the onset of stable colds. Roots should be stored in wooden boxes, covered with earth. The temperature in the room should not exceed five degrees, so that the cellar or the insulated cellar is the best fit.

Particular attention should be paid to soil moisture in the boxes: it should be slightly damp, but not moist. In general, it is best to try to maintain the natural moisture of the substrate, since the spherical chrysanthemum, the wintering of which we describe, in this case is better experienced by the cold period.

Even if you cultivate these flowers in a room, then in the fall they also need to be pruned and stored in a cellar. For them deadly and warm air of city apartments is deadly dangerous.

Important! In the cellar or in the cellar, where you store plants in the winter, in no case should there be fungus and mold. To avoid their appearance, it is mandatory to establish a qualitative ventilation system.

If there are traces of a fungus on the walls or on the floor, it must be scraped off and the place treated with a saturated solution of copper sulfate. If it is not, then you can use the used engine oil, which also gives good results.
