How to configure the modem 'D-Link 2500U'? Types of connection

This publication discusses how to configure the D-Link modem - one of the modems of the D-Link corporation. All of them are quite simple and comfortable to set up. In this case, as an example, we will learn how to configure the modem "D-Link 2500U". It is to him, perhaps, the most preferred users of ADSL-Internet.

The proposed instruction will allow you to configure almost any modem from this line. This can be "2600U", "2650U", because they are all configured the same way, or at least in all their settings there is a similarity. Consider the connection and configuration of this device, we will be on the items:

Point one - We connect the device to the telephone line: for all such modems it is characteristic that they must be connected to telephone lines. For this purpose, they are bundled with special wires with plugs (connectors), which, in fact, are telephone wires. Nowadays, such telephone wires are connected to the telephone socket through special "splitters" (filters). This is done for the stable and fast operation of the Internet and for the suppression of noise in the handset.

How do I set up a D-Link modem? Point two. We connect the device to the computer: at this stage of the process under consideration, no difficulties should arise even for unsophisticated users of the PC. Simply remove the blue cord from the modem package and insert one end into the corresponding ADSL modem connector. The other end, respectively, is inserted into the corresponding port, which is located on the back of the PC. If you do not have one, you'll have to shell out to buy a network card.

Any one, even the cheapest one for 10/100 Mbit, will do. It should be installed on the motherboard in the PCI slot. The operating system "Windows" should automatically detect the presence of new equipment, which will be marked by the appearance of a window with the choice of the Network. Choose the necessary item: "Public network". No other settings of the installed network card should be changed, as they will be made automatically.

If all connections are made correctly, the modem "lights up" a bulb, above which it says "LAN".

Point three. How do I set up the "D-Link" modem to connect to the Internet? There are two types of such modem-ADSL connections: 1) bridge (bridge) and 2) router (router). The difference is that the connection by "bridge" means the independent connection of the computer with the Internet, and the connection by "router" means that the modem-ADSL will perform the connection independently, then transferring the Internet PC. Consider the connection "router", because users of personal computers consider it more preferable.

How to configure the modem "D-Link" and connect to the network "router:

  • After turning on the device, wait about 25 seconds, until the light with the inscription "Power" lights up.
  • On the back of these modems there is a special hole that accesses the reset button of all settings. It should be pressed when the modem is on and wait about ten seconds.
  • We are waiting for another minute.
  • After launching any Internet browser, you should enter: 192.168.1.1, a window will appear in which you will enter "admin" in the login and password fields. There will be one more page. If this does not happen, you should try to enter: 192.168.0.1 (192.168.2.1). When the message "Incorrect login (password)" appears, enter "Admin" (with a capital letter).
  • Left click "Quick Setup" (in some versions of "Wizard") and see a new window.
  • After removing the mark with "DSL Auto-connect", we see new fields intended for the introduction of the corresponding parameters. VPI and VCI are recognized by the provider.
  • In the next window, mark "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" and click "Next".
  • Now, in fact, we came to the introduction of a login and password, known from the contract or a plastic card.
  • The other settings should also prompt the provider, as they may differ.
  • Clicking "Next", you will see a new window, in which the settings can not be changed, but left, as is. Again, "Next", and the settings that have appeared are strictly forbidden, unless you are an advanced user of a long-established PC. Once again, "Next", and save the settings made by clicking "Save / Reboot".

Practically this is all. Within a few minutes, if properly configured, the "i" or "Internet" light will flash on the device. This indicates that everything is done right and the device is working properly.
