Canada: minerals. Oil and gas production in Canada

One of the five largest energy-producing countries in the world, together with China, the United States, as well as Saudi Arabia and Russia, is Canada. Minerals and industry are the main strength of the country's economy.

Oil production in Canada

Canada is a rising star in the ranking of world oil producers and exporters for many years. All minerals, oil, gas and others are the main strength of the Canadian economy and its wealth. Recently, there has been an increase in oil production in this country from the sands. By the way, not only these products are rich in Canada. There are a variety of minerals here: non-ferrous metals, iron, ore, precious metals, coal, various salts, and much more, which is the real treasure of the country.

The reserve of oil production in Canada is about 180 billion barrels, owned by the state. Among all countries that have oil reserves, Canada occupies an honorable third place. Oil production in Canada in general is in the world in second place (the championship holds Saudi Arabia). True, not everything is so simple, because most of the black gold is buried in oil sands. These minerals of Canada (oil, in particular) are being developed with the help of very expensive and environmentally hazardous technologies with low profitability.

Canadian Oil Sector

Nevertheless, the production and consumption of oil in the country is steadily increasing. Minerals with the advent of new technologies began to be extracted much easier, and also more profitable from the point of view of the economy.

Oil companies have undergone strategic restructuring and consolidation, all of them privatized. The sources of oil production in Canada are three whales: resources located in the Western sedimentary basin, offshore minerals in the Atlantic Ocean and oil sands that are the leaders in this troika.

In the future development of mining VT will play an important role in the eastern coastal provinces of Canada. The mature oil fields of Newfoundland and Labrador - the shelves of the east - promise to bring oil production to the first place in the given country in the future.

Canada's oil export

The owner of huge reserves, Canada, minerals exports mostly to the United States. Almost 97 percent of liquid fuel exports go there annually.

Since the beginning of the new millennium, Canada has been the largest oil exporter in the US, occupying a third of this market segment. In addition, Canada has also entered the Chinese market. At the same time, since 2010, China has doubled the need for oil imports. Currently, Canada is much more than other countries to supply these resources to the Middle Kingdom and takes pride of place in the top ten most powerful oil exporters in the world.

CNOOC became the pioneer operator of the industrial scale development of oil sands. Large firms engaged in the extraction of black gold, are a springboard for the development of new technologies. Chinese companies invest heavily in oil exploration and development of other energy sectors.

Pipeline systems in Canada

The oil production centers are connected to each other by a pipeline system. The refineries and export centers in the eastern provinces are connected to the West and the US States by the largest pipeline system into a single network. In general, the CPC (Canadian Pipeline Companies) association transports oil by 3 million barrels each day. And from Western Canada, Montana exports two and a half million barrels of oil daily.

Only one pipeline network supplies crude oil. Her path begins in the city of Edmonton, then the resources pass through the processing and distribution points in Vancouver along the final route to Illinois. Companies, which are operators of the export pipeline network, constantly have projects for new ways of supplying resources. After the implementation of these plans, the speed and volumes of oil transfer from Alberta to the coast of Mexico will increase even more. In addition to black gold, Canada has other minerals.

Gas production in Canada

In terms of gas production, the country of the maple leaf holds the fifth place among the countries of the whole world. After Norway, Russia and Qatar, Canada takes the fourth position in exporting this product. Mineral resources are mined in the Western Canadian basin and on the shelves of the eastern coast, near the island of Newfoundland, as well as in Nova Scotia and the Arctic. Wide deposits of shale gas, methane, coal seams, gas tight reservoirs and other types of unconventional gases were discovered in Canada. Despite this, they are not yet sufficiently developed, in contrast to the US. Five sedimentary basins, rich in deposits of this resource, are located in Canada. Three more potential shale deposits are located in Quebec, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. However, in these settlements, geological exploration is subject to regulatory and legal restrictions.

According to the National Energy Agency of Canada, two thirds of all Canada's gas was produced in the province of Alberta, the remaining third is in British Columbia.

Canada Gas Export

As well as other minerals, oil and almost all gas Canada sends to the United States. The main part of the resource is exported via the gas pipeline.
