Bunion of knee joint and its types

Bursa is a periarticular bag containing a liquid. The main bursa is found in the largest joints and attached to the tendons, thereby contributing to a decrease in interstitial friction. Bursitis of the knee arises as a result of the inflammatory process in the bursa. It can be caused by injuries or stretching.

There is a septic and aseptic bursitis. Septic knee bursitis occurs as a result of getting into the periarticular bag of pathogenic bacteria, and aseptic is the result of trauma.

In order for a specialist to decide how to treat a knee bursitis, you must first determine its appearance. Directly near the knee joint are three types of bursa: goose, prepatellar and infrapatellar.

Directly above the patella is the prepatellar bursa, and inflammation of this species is caused by a prolonged stay on the knees. Often it is classified as the "knee roofer" and "knee housewife." In the case of prepatellar bursitis, there is an increase in temperature, swelling, redness of the skin around the joint, and pain. In order to determine the degree of pain, one can compare this type of bursitis with arthritis, in which pain is much less pronounced.

Also, pre-patellar bursitis of the knee joint can be caused by a trauma that provokes the filling of the bag with blood. Still possible causes of the disease can be salt deposits, pseudogout, rheumatoid arthritis.

Bursitis of the knee joint, the symptoms of which are already clear, is treated based on whether it is septic or aseptic. In the aseptic form of bursitis treatment is carried out in the form of applying ice compresses, taking anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications. Note that the treatment, in order for it to be effective, should be carried out in a calm state of the patient, when he moves little. For successful treatment of bursitis, restriction in movement is mandatory.

There are cases when it becomes necessary to remove the liquid with a syringe, which is then usually sent for detailed analysis. Also, in parallel with the extraction of fluid, corticosteroid injections can be made.

If the cause of bursitis is the ingress of bacteria, the pre-patellar bursitis of the knee joint is often treated under the supervision of a doctor and for a longer period. After a detailed analysis of the fluid from the bursa, a course of antibiotics is prescribed, and it is also possible to establish drainage and even remove the inflamed bursa.

The second kind of knee bursa - the infra-patella is located under the knee cap directly next to the large tendon (below it). Inflammation of this bursa occurs after injury due to a jump, resulting in inflammation of the tendons. Treatment of this type of bursitis is carried out by applying an ice compress to the site of inflammation, as well as taking medications with anti-inflammatory or analgesic effect.

The third bursa is called goose. It is located below, on the inside of the knee joint. Goose bursitis of the knee joint develops in women after thirty-five years. Often patients suffer from excess weight. Characteristic signs of this type of disease are painful sensations, which appear when climbing and descending the stairs. Treatment in many ways is similar to the previous form: taking anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, compresses with ice, maintaining the state of rest. If the disease is started, the doctor prescribes injections of corticosteroids.

Any bursitis implies a restriction of physical activity, which overloads the knee joint. If you do not adhere to the regime, the treatment will not give the proper effect.
