Cultivation of phlox Drummond, care rules

Phlox Drummond, whose cultivation we will consider in this article, is an annual plant with a variety of colors. It blooms in the very beginning of summer and continues to please the eye until the beginning of autumn. It is very rare to observe the presence of Drummond's phlox in urban flower gardens and front gardens. The reason is in the exacting nature of the plant. With overheating and low humidity, Drummond's phlox blossoms cease, and he himself often dies.

The best place to plant

Hypersensitive to drought and dehydration are mostly compact, low-growing plant varieties. The same can be said about the hybrids of Drummond's phlox. Tall ones (more than forty centimeters) are resistant to heat, but they have mostly large shrubs, so for urban flower beds they do not fit. But homestead plots, mixboarders and rabatki - the best place for phlox Drummond. Here it will be very useful.

Production of seedlings

Despite the fact that this plant can be grown by direct planting in the soil, it is better to learn the technology of seedling production. In order to get it, you need to sprinkle seeds in March or April in the prepared boxes. Seed emerged after seven days should be mildly watered and maintained in the rooms where they grow, a stable low temperature. After three weeks they should be dived, and then fertilize first with nitrogen fertilizers, and after complex (ten days after the introduction of the first). In no case should you be zealous with watering - excess moisture provokes the appearance of root rot. In May, they can already be planted on a permanent place, leaving between the young plants a distance of twelve to twenty-five centimeters. On some of them buds already have time to appear. Typically, this accelerated budding is characterized by the low-growth Drummond flock. Flowers on tall varieties appear at the end of June. After planting, the soil must be well fertilized with complex fertilizers.

We plant the seeds of phlox into the ground

At the end of April, if warm weather is established, it is necessary to make shallow grooves in the soil, to water well. After planting seeds lightly sprinkle with earth. It is better to place them in the soil with nests of three or four pieces. From above it is recommended to put a covering material to preserve moisture. In two weeks, act as a seedling - thin, loosen, water, fertilize. Planted directly into the soil, phloxes please buds later, but their flowering continues until frost. Withering plants are better to remove.

What to do to make phloxes bloom longer

Water well in hot weather. Fodder with complex fertilizers. Even if the bloom has stopped because of the heat, you can restore it with nitrogen fertilizing. Choose varieties that are adapted to the climate of your locality. For example, the variety "Tapestry" is suitable for brochures and groups. It is a mixture of bush pastel and bicolour stains. The height of this plant is up to forty-five centimeters. Varieties "Constellation" (flowers of the star shape) and "Chanel" (double inflorescence) are suitable for balconies and low containers.
