Plymouthrock - chicken for household plots

The original appearance and excellent productivity distinguishes the breed of chickens Plymouth. Chicken of this breed can be the highlight of any house. Consumer demand for meat, especially dietary, is increasing every year. An excellent tool for solving this problem within the home breeding is the Plymouth - a chicken, capable of giving first-class meat a yellowish hue.

History

The breed of chicken pimentutrok was bred in the second half of the nineteenth century in America. Cours of white Cochin, Dominican and Langshan crossbreed with black Spanish roosters. Representatives of the Brama and Javanese chickens took part in the breeding. Received as a result of a long crossing, the breed was named "Plymouth" in honor of the eponymous US state.

Officially the recognition of Plymouth (a bird in the photo in the text) was received in 1910, when the American Poultry Association defined and approved the breed standard. The productive qualities of the bird contributed to its wide distribution throughout the world.

Characteristics of the breed

Plymouthrock is a meat-egg hen. Its main productive indicators are:

  • Egg production - up to 190 pieces;
  • The weight of the egg is 60 grams;
  • Hatchability - up to 80%;
  • The safety of birds - up to 96%;
  • The color of the egg is cream (light brown);
  • Features - in the diurnal age, the color of the males and chickens of the striped Plymouths can be discerned, late feathers - by the end of the sixth week;
  • Weight of chicken - up to 3.5 kg;
  • The weight of the cock is 4.5 kg (sometimes up to 5 kg);
  • Incubation - is present;
  • Temperament - calm, sedentary;
  • Productivity is meat-egg.

The breed has eight approved species of tail feathers: gray, kuropatyatye, white, black, blue, striped, yellow, fawn. The main types are two varieties:

  • Plymouth striped - the breed of chickens, the most popular for keeping in domestic poultry houses. Each bird feather has transverse strips of gray-blue color. And the roosters ratio is 1: 1, so they are slightly lighter than the hens (they have a ratio of 3: 2). In feathering and tail feathers, the striae are wider. For an ideal color, the pen should end in black. Stripedness of the pen can be traced along its entire length, the fluff does not have such a pronounced color gamut. Chickens have a dark color. Inadmissible drawbacks include: yellow or brown tint, blurriness of the pattern, no stripes on the feathers (feather black), ash gray, white or fluff without strips.
  • White Plymouth must have impeccable whiteness. No shades of yellow or any other color are allowed. The drawbacks include the presence of non-white feathers, greenish metatars, a clear yellow hue of the young tail. Only chicken white plymutroka used in industrial poultry. The egg color of white Plymouths is 20% higher than that of a bird of any other color.

In addition to economic breeding, there is still such a variety as the dwarf plymouth. Chicken weighs up to 1 kg, roosters up to 1.2 kg. Chickens have a good egg lay: up to 140 eggs per year weighing up to 40 grams. The bird was bred in Germany in 1914 and is bred by amateurs as a decorative breed.
