Biography and creativity Evgenia Vodolazkina

The bright and talented prose of Evgeny Vodolazkin became a real event in the world of contemporary Russian literature. A unique style, a peculiar sense of humor, an author's stunning syllable are the main reasons for success. Our today's article will be devoted to the biography and creativity of the writer.

Biography

Vodolazkin Eugene Germanovich - a recognized connoisseur of ancient Russian literature, who became the author of works that were included in the short lists of the best literary prizes of our country.

Evgeny Germanovich was born in the Ukrainian capital on February 21, 1964. About the childhood of the future writer, almost nothing is known, since he himself is not particularly willing to share this information.

But it is known that Vodolazkin is very similar to his great-grandfather, who was the director of the St. Petersburg gymnasium. In 1919 he joined the White Army as a volunteer, and sent his family to Kiev to protect him from danger. When the White Guards were defeated, he joined his family, realizing that to return to the Northern Palmyra for him would be tantamount to a death sentence. The fact that in 65 years his grandson managed to come to Petersburg, the author himself called "returning home."

Eugene Vodolazkin in 1986 graduated from the philological faculty of Kiev University named after TG Shevchenko. And immediately after that he goes to graduate school at the Department of Old Russian Literature IRLI (Institute of Russian Literature). In 1990, he was admitted to the staff of the Academic Council of IRI. A few years later, the writer will become one of the leading scientific employees of the Institute, as well as a lecturer at the Petersburg and Munich universities.

Of particular interest to Vodolazkin was the literature of Ancient Rus, which he devoted most of his life to studying. The result of these studies are about one hundred monographs and scientific articles. However, the writer draws a clear line between fiction and scientific work. In his opinion, these are two absolutely different, albeit interrelated, ways of knowing the world. Science feeds creativity with new ideas, and creativity helps make science more harmonious. But in no case can not combine these concepts.

Little is known about Yevgeny Germanovich's personal life: only that he is married. About whether the writer has children, in the network and in the pages of the journals is silent.

The year 2013 was marked for the philologist and writer by awarding the "Yasnaya Polyana" book prize. October 14 of the same year, he, as one of the leading Russian writers, took part in the Museum of Leo Tolstoy and took the torch of the Olympic flame.

Now let us turn to the writer's work and get acquainted with his published books in more detail.

"Laurel"

This novel received the greatest fame from all the works that Yevgeniy Vodolazkin wrote. "Laurel", reviews on which were stormy and approving, became a kind of visiting card of the author.

The writer himself defines the genre of this work as a "novel-life". Events unfold in the XV century in Russia. In the center of the story is the life of the herbalist Arseny, who inherited the profession from his grandfather. Even in his youth, a heavy test falls on him - his beloved Ustinya dies during childbirth together with the child. Arseny considers himself guilty of what happened with his wife and decides to devote her life to her memory. For this, he becomes a wanderer who heals people. As a pilgrim, he comes to Jerusalem, where he is tonsured into monks and receives a new name - Lavr.

But the novel is not so much an event as it is a language. Vodolazkin skillfully managed to recreate the ancient Russian, Middle-Soviet and "early post-intelligentsia" speech. His hero in his monologues freely passes from one era of the Russian language to another. Such author's style can be called "weaving words".

The novel received high marks from critics and in 2013 became the winner of two book awards: "Clear Glade" and "The Big Book". Moreover, the work to this day is listed among the nominees for various literary awards.

"Very different time"

The book is a collection of works. Eugene Vodolazkin included in it a number of interesting stories and the story "Close friends", telling about a German soldier who reached Stalingrad ten years ago and who again has to overcome this path. Also included in the collection is the novel "Soloviev and Larionov", previously published separately.

"Home and Island, or Language Tool"

In the "Instrument of Language" the most clearly manifested personality of Evgeny Vodolazkin. The book is a collection of short sketches from the life of colleagues and friends of the author, sketches and essays. It is in these stories about people, absolutely for the reader of outsiders, that the author reveals himself, his worldview, life principles and landmarks.

"A couple of plays" / "Petersburg Drama"

In this book, published under two different names, manifests itself as a playwright Eugene Vodolazkin. Critics' reviews, despite the change in the role, pleasantly surprised the admirers of the writer's talent. The book includes two plays, the action of which unfolds in the banks of the Neva. But if the "Parodist" describes the modern Northern Palmyra, then in the drama "Museum" the reader is transferred to Leningrad in the 1930s.

Vodolazkin treats historical details with care, without losing sight of either speech, social realities, or the changing psychology of people. However, despite this, the main conflict of the plays does not take place in reality, but at a metaphysical level. However, this does not make the work heavy, less dramatic or boring. Yes, and the peculiar humor of Evgeny Vodolazkin will not let the reader get bored.

"Soloviev and Larionov"

The main heroes of the novel were the modern historian Soloviev and the white general Larionov, whose life is surrounded by many secrets. It is for their clue and the scientist undertakes. Solovyov explores architecture, searches for eyewitness accounts, meets with the descendants of the general and opens the hunt for his papers. Carried away, the scientist does not see how research turns into a dangerous adventure. Solovyov's life is filled with dangers and doubts.

This novel by Evgeniya Vodolazkin almost immediately after the publication was included in the list of nominees for the literary prize of Andrei Bely.
