Among the huge number of animated films created in different countries and in different techniques, a special place is occupied by anime. This is the name of Japanese cartoons, the main audience of which are teenagers and adults. Anime is characterized by a special technique for drawing characters. Most often, the anime is based on manga (Japanese comics), and the authors try to keep the original style graphically. Sometimes classical literary works are taken as a basis.

"Spirited Away" (2001)

Full-length anime (the list of the best films can be seen further) have their own standard. This is one of the most famous works of this master of Japanese cartoons, directed by Hayao Miyazaki - the anime "Spirited Away".

Ten-year-old Chihiro moved with his parents to a new house. Getting lost, they get into a mysterious forest and face the wall with a tunnel. Passing through it, the family goes to a city where there is not a single resident, but there are many restaurants with a pleasantly smelling food. Chihiro's starving parents greedily pounce on the treat, and the girl at this time decides to walk around the city. She meets the boy Haku, who demands that she flee urgently from this place. Chihiro hurries to the restaurant, where he finds his parents, turned into pigs. The tunnel, by which they came to the city, disappeared. The girl finds Haku and explains that she was in a magical land of ghosts, where the witch Yubaba is in charge. To save the parents, Chihiro needs to go to work in the sorceress's baths. There the girl gets into a whirlpool of amazing and frightening events.

"Spirited Away" is the best full-length anime of all time. The cartoon is among the most popular and favorite paintings of the XX century and occupies the top lines in all sorts of ratings. Anime entered the gold fund of world cinema.

The Walking Castle (2004)

Full-length anime (the list of the best cartoons) continues another great work of Hayao Miyazaki. "Walking Castle" is interesting because it was based not on the Japanese work, as in the anime, but on the eponymous novel by the English writer Diana Jones. As the director said, the prototype of the castle from his cartoon was a hut on chicken legs.

According to the anime story, the action takes place in an alternative universe where magic and advanced technologies peacefully coexist with each other. The main heroine of history is Sophie's hatter. Once, from the harassment on the street, a handsome young man rescues her, but Sophie is severely punished by the witch, taking away the girl's youth. Turning into an old lady, the heroine of history decides to go to the Wilderness to remove the curse from herself. On the way she meets the Scarecrow, which helps her to get into a huge and mysterious structure - a walking giant castle. In it, Sophie meets the boy Markle and the fire demon of Calcifer. Despite the resistance of the latter, she decides to remain in the castle and, for starters, arranges a general cleaning. This is not at all pleased the returned master of the house - the powerful wizard Haul.

The cartoon was awarded numerous awards and entered the list of the best paintings of the world. Many famous actors, for example, Christian Bale, immediately agreed to voice anime characters, because they were familiar with another work of the director, "Gone with ghosts."

"From the slopes of Kokuriko" (2011)

This is the best full-length anime directed by Goro Miyazaki tells the story of the girl Umi. Her father, the captain of the ship, died in the war, his mother leaves for work in another city, and the main character remains in the house for the mistress. In addition to domestic affairs, she visits a school club and joins a team of activists who are trying to save the building from closure. Working with other students to save the club, Umi meets her first love.

"Princess Mononoke" (1997)

This best full-length anime on a mystical theme carries the viewer in the era of the appearance of firearms. Prince Asitaka, saving his village from a demon-possessed boar, kills the beast. But he manages to touch the young man and gives him his curse. In search of healing Asitaka goes on a journey. It gets into the area where the inhabitants of the Iron City and the ancient forest are leading an old confrontation. In the forest, Asitaka meets the adopted daughter of the goddess - Princess Mononoke. Not wanting to allow bloodshed, the young man assumes the role of peacemaker between people and forest dwellers.

"My Neighbor Totoro" (1988)

According to the plot of the cartoon, two little sisters, Satsuki and May, they move with their father to the village. The mother of the girls is seriously ill and is in the hospital. While the father is working, Satsuki should keep an eye on May's five-year-old fidgeting. One day the little girl meets small forest spirits and chases them. They lead the girl to the local spirit of the forest - Totoro. He became one of the most popular and recognizable characters. He is not a traditional Japanese folklore character, but a fictional character. It was invented by Miyazaki himself, giving Totoro the features of a spirit-keeper of the forest. In his appearance, the director combined the appearance of three animals: owls, cats and raccoon dogs. As a result, a funny woolly creature appeared, able to fly. Despite Totoro's outward friendliness, he can get very angry.

"The Heavenly Castle of Laputa" (1986)

In the alternative world there is a legend about the heavenly island of Laputa. Someone dreams of using it to gain power, others of wealth. But it can be found only with the help of a magic crystal. He belongs to the girl Sita, who considers him a talisman. Pirates and the government are beginning to hunt for a crystal, and Sita is in danger. The girl is rescued by Paz, a young man from a mining town. Together they decide to find out what value the talisman of Sita is.

"The Witch's Delivery Service" (1989)

A screen version of the famous children's novel by a Japanese writer called "Kiki Delivery Service." This is the story of the adventures of a little witch-pupil Kiki, who, along with her cat Zizi, goes on an internship to a foreign city. Kiki gets to the seaside Koriko. There is no her witch, and the girl decides to stay in the city, which she really liked. She comes up with the idea of using a flying broom to deliver things to the people of Koriko.

"The Tomb of the Fireflies" (1988)

The best cartoon that tells the story of the life of a brother and sister during the Second World War. The father of the children serves in the navy, and the mother dies as a result of the air raid of the enemy.

Saita and Setsuko are alone and try to survive. Not having received help from their aunt, they go to live in abandoned houses. Little Setsuko gets sick and dies. Sate learns about the surrender of the Japanese army and thinks that his father was killed along with the imperial fleet. Left, he thinks, all alone, the boy loses his desire to live. "The Wind Strengthens" (2014)

This is the best full-length anime of recent years. As it was announced, this film by Hayao Miyazaki ends his career as a director.

The cartoon tells the biography of the famous Japanese aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi, who created military fighters. The painting received many awards as the best animated film of the year.
