Begishevo - airport in the south-east of Tatarstan

Begishevo is an airport in the east of the Republic of Tatarstan. Its main task is to serve the Naberezhnye Chelny urban agglomeration, which it has been performing for more than 40 years.

History and background information

In 28 km from Naberezhnye Chelny there is Begishevo (airport). The distance to another nearest city, Nizhnekamsk, is 19 km.

The air-transport junction was built in the Soviet period - in 1971. The first flights began in December 1971. In the post-Soviet period in 1998, the airport was given the international status by the government's decision.

The owner of the company at the moment is the Kamsky Automobile Plant (KamAZ). Since 2011, large-scale works have begun on the reconstruction of the airport and airfield complexes in order to obtain a new category C.
