Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the church in Pechatniki. Stages of his history

From time immemorial, a bell-shaped bells floated above Moscow. They poured out the raspberry jingle of her "forty magpies". And always in this blessed chord the voice of a mighty bell from the belfry of the temple, erected by the royal masters - printers, was distinguished. Sang it hot copper for the glory of the Mother of God and Her Most Pure Son.

Construction of the first wooden church

In XVII the emperor granted to the masters of his Printing Ground of the earth that they stretched along the stream, just between the present streets of Trubnaya and Sretenka. Those settled, set up houses, started farming. But what kind of life is this without the temple of God? So the church's writers built the church, consecrating it in honor of the great event - the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The temple in Pechatniki was then wooden, it is known, but when it was erected, no one knows. Some sources call 1625, others - 1631. Who now will remember - it has long been. It is known for sure that in 1659, by diligence all the same printers, the temple was completely rebuilt, but remained as before log.

Construction of a stone church

Safely he stood for thirty-six years, and in 1695 was dismantled. Invited masons, and they laid a marvelous stone church. He was also consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

The temple in the Pechatniki of those years did not much resemble the one that Muscovites now know and love. It was one-headed and without lateral limits, which were built later. In the exact dating helps inscription on one of the icons. We built it in the then accepted Moscow baroque style.

The Lord kept this temple. From the documents that have come down to us it is clear that the terrible fire that happened in Moscow in 1937, has bypassed its wall. Even during the epidemic in 1771, the temple did not have to be closed - the death of all those who lived near it and visited the services did not touch. Moreover, from records of 1774 it is known that the parish of the church is recognized as one of the most exemplary parishes of Moscow.

Constructing the limits of the temple

The church choir sang harmoniously, and the blazing smoke from the censers rose to the arches. But one prevented parishioners from praying and reading the Akathists in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - the church in Pechatniki was not heated, and in the frigid winter frosts the cold was fierce in it. And in 1725 the parishioners decided to attach a warm aisle to the temple.

It was not a mess that got down to business, and in 1727 it was built and consecrated. Further work on the expansion of the temple continued in 1763. Another chapel was built on the other side of the refectory. And eight years later, a small chapel was attached to the building of the refectory.

A remarkable Russian artist, icon painter Nikolai Nikolaevich Tyapkin, in 1794 decorated the walls of the church with a painting, and four years later a huge bell was raised on his belfry. Completed the general decoration installed in 1805 a new iconostasis, behind which was the throne consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The church in Pechatniki was the pride of the parishioners.

Destruction and subsequent restoration of the temple

But the Lord let the Lord suffer him in 1812 at the hands of European barbarians. French soldiers looted and burned the temple. What was saved was transferred to the Sretensky Monastery. The following year the parishioners began to restore with all their strength their temple of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. In Pechatniki, on Sretenka, the work began to boil, and soon everything that burned in the fire of war was recreated. The sound of his bells floated over Moscow again.

The shape of the temple acquired new features at the very turn of the century. In the period 1897 - 1902, the architect M.A. Aladin rebuilt the building of the refectory and the chapel. A bell tower was built in the refectory. Crowned her small stone tent.

The fate of the temple in the XX century

With the coming to power, the Bolsheviks closed the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in Pechatniki. Moskvovedenie - the field of historical science, dealing with the past of our capital - in its research articles devoted to this period, describes the defeat, comparable only to the invasion of the French. The disfigured building was rebuilt, and Soviet institutions were placed there.

The revival came with a period of perestroika, when the property that was taken away from her returned to the Orthodox Church. In 1994, the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pechatniki was again consecrated. The schedule of services posted at the entrance, as in previous years, informs parishioners that they are expected at liturgies, vespers and matins. Church life gradually returned to its path, indicated to it by the holy fathers.
