Applique for clothes with your own hands

Applikatsiya, or an overhead sewing, as a kind of needlework, appeared even in the Middle Ages. And the prototype of the application for clothes can be considered pieces of leather and furs, which people decorated their belongings in ancient times. Currently, it is also very popular. This technique attracts the handicraftsmen by the fact that it is simple in execution and allows simultaneous use of various materials. It is used in a variety of products: for decorating potholders and tablecloths, curtains and paintings, pillows, bags and other interior items, as well as children's and adult clothing.

Overhead sewing is a type of embroidery, in which small pieces of fabric or other materials are sewn on the embroidery or the main background of the fabric. There are several types of applications: flat and convex, multi-colored and one-color. In addition, distinguish the purl or podkladnuyu technique, when individual parts of the pattern are attached from the wrong side of the transparent fabric, and the front, performed on the front side of the product. This kind of needlework is often combined with different types of embroidery. For example, some details from the edges are impaired by the usual machine, and others by three-dimensional embroidery. The sewn applique on the clothes looks very original.

Particularly impressive is the 3D applique. When it is made, a small piece of cotton or a sintepon is put under a superficially placed piece of cloth. In rare cases, a small slit is made from the wrong side. Through it they sew a sewn up flap. With overlaid sewing, different types of needlework can be combined: embroidery, knitting, macrame, beadwork, etc.

Application for clothing or other background is attached in several ways. It can be sewn by hand or on a sewing machine, glued with glue or fastened with a hot iron (thermo-application).

One of the options for using this technique is to sew a patch that allows you to cover a hole or stain on clothes. This is especially often used on children's clothing, which is constantly torn and dirty. Children's applications of tissue can be done together with children. They will decorate the product and, of course, will please your child.

Running an overhead sewing is not difficult. First, a drawing of the future application is applied to the product. Then, the individual details of the drawing are transferred to scraps, cut out, put on a base fabric and sewed. After that they are sewn on the contour on the sewing machine or manually - tambour, smooth, goat, string and other embroidery sutures. The surface of the finished work can be decorated with various decorative seams, buttons, beads, etc.

The application for clothing is also sewn to decorate coats, raincoats, jackets and other outer clothing. For this, non-flowing fabrics are used: drape, felt, cloth, suede or leather. Carrying out work in this technique from such thick fabrics, the pattern fragments are first made of cardboard. And then after the ready-made stencils, the details of the future application are cut out. Part of the pattern of these fabrics can not be sewn entirely to the product, but only fastened in the center with a button, bead or embroidery.

Appliques can be created on different fabrics: velvet, silk, brocade, cotton and linen fabrics, natural and artificial skin. On multi-colored fabrics, an overhead sewing looks better than embroidery. In this case, the fragments of the picture are cut out of a monophonic tissue.

The sewn applique on clothes will give you an individuality, decorate the monotonous sweaters, sweaters, dresses and other things bought in the store. Fantasize, come up with new patterns, create, create beautiful with your own hands, and then your life will turn into a fairy tale!
