Andaman Sea

The Andaman Sea is located in the east between the peninsulas of Malacca and Indochina, in the south near the island of Sumatra and in the west between the Andaman and Nicobar islands . In the north, this sea is located to the delta of the Irrawaddy River.

The Andaman Sea is located in the warm zone of the subtropics and tropics of the Northern Hemisphere. The climate is humid, hot, tropical. Salinity of water slightly exceeds the salinity of the waters of the Bay of Bengal. But in the north, near the mouths of the Salween and Irrawaddy rivers , the water is much safer. In some places there are very high tides - about seven meters.

The bottom soils of the Andaman Sea are similar to the soils of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Gravel, pebbles, sand prevail in the continental zone, and in the depths - red clays and silt. From the south to the north, the bottom is crossed by a volcanic arc (the islands of Narkondam, Barren). It is volcanic activity that becomes the frequent cause of earthquakes that cause a tsunami. Frequent natural disasters, in turn, form bizarre rocks and stone formations. The shore is winding, mostly low, flat, rocky and hilly.

The animal world is diverse and rich. The shelf zone is inhabited mainly by marine species - from microscopic to large predators to large cetaceans. There are a lot of mollusks, coelenterates, crustaceans, echinoderms, sea snakes, worms and other living creatures living on the bottom. The Andaman Sea is rich in various fish. Here, cozy and very small fish, larger inhabitants. A scuba diver can here see fish-clowns, triggerfish, butterfly fishes, lionfishes, various stingrays and gobies, flying fish , tuna, herring, swordfish, sardinella and many others. Of the cetaceans, mainly dolphins live here, including the dolphin of the Iravadiy Orcella. There are also cartilaginous fish, including sharks. But in recent years, their numbers have declined significantly, not only in the Andaman Sea, but in many other places on the planet. The reason for this is uncontrolled fishing, barbarian hunting for sharks because of their fins. Some species of sharks are listed in the Red Book, including a unique unique species - white. But, despite this, you can still see these beautiful creatures in the waters of this sea.
