Alternative history. What would have happened if Hitler had won the war?

What would have happened if Hitler had won? This terrible question is often asked by historians, wishing to understand from what the Soviet Union saved the whole world, defeating together with the allies the Third Reich in 1945. The answers to this question are truly terrible.

German plans

From 1939 to 1942, several plans were developed that implied the surrender of the USSR in the war against Germany. First there appeared the so-called "Barbarossa" plan, then the concept of Alfred Rosenberg was promulgated. In 1942, Hitler's appetites grew, so the German tasks were increased. If Hitler had won, the Ost plan envisaged mass resettlement and destruction, as well as the Germanization of whole groups of peoples. Under the Germanization, according to the ideologists of fascism, the peoples of the Baltic region were most approached. More specifically, Latvians. Other nations were considered genetically closer to Slavic.

What would the world be like if Hitler won: the map of the USSR

So, let's assume Hitler's victory over the USSR. The concept of Rosenberg provided for the division of the USSR into 5 parts:

  1. Ostland. This governorship was to be based on the territory of the Baltic states and Belarus.
  2. Reichskommissariat Ukraine. In fact, such an administrative-territorial unit existed, but far from within the bounds that Rosenberg supposed. The capital of this formation was located in Rivne, and the structure included the Right-bank and part of the Left-bank Ukraine. What would have happened if Hitler had won? On the territory of Ukraine, the Crimea, the Krasnodar Territory and the Volga region it was supposed to create a state controlled by the Germans Ukraine.
  3. Muscovy. It was about the territory of the European part of Russia to the Ural Mountains.
  4. The Governorate of the Caucasus. This administrative formation would include the Transcaucasian republics of the USSR, as well as the lands of the North Caucasus.
  5. Turkestan. In this gubernatorial office it was planned to include regions of Russia that are beyond the Urals.

We see a plan in which Ukraine became the support of the fascist regime after the separation of the USSR, which formally would become an independent state.

Understanding what would have happened if Hitler had won, we should once again raise the great praise of the Red Army and the entire Soviet people, who actually saved themselves and Europe from an incredible plague, from perdition.

Map of Europe in case of defeat of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War

So, what would happen if Hitler won, with the borders of European states? In this regard, historians see a very depressing picture. Hitler's allies (Italy, Romania, Hungary) would most likely retain their formal independence. Perhaps, the territories of these countries could increase due to the accession of nearby lands. In the plans of the Fuhrer was to form a huge empire, which constantly had to increase due to the accession of new lands. What countries could have joined Germany if Hitler had defeated the USSR? First of all, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland. About the plans for the division of the USSR we have already said above. In addition, we do not forget that before the attack on the USSR the fascist forces managed to annex the countries of Benelux, Scandinavia (except Finland, which was also Hitler's ally) and part of France. A neighbor of Germany Austria was annexed by Hitler even before the Great Patriotic War, so we do not even have to talk about the fate of this country in a hypothetical plan.

The administrative-territorial structure of Germany would look like this. As a unitary state, Germany would be divided into governorships. These territories were to be managed by people who were appointed directly by Hitler. It is difficult to judge the size of governorships. It can be confidently asserted that the old borders of states would be redrawn. For the policy of the Reich, it was important to mix the peoples, so that there would be no organized confrontation with the enemy in a certain area.

The history of the plan "Ost"

Since the plan "Barabarossa" provided for the victory of the fascists over the USSR even before the winter of 1941/42, German generals and scientists began to think about the fate of the peoples of the conquered territories in the East already in the middle of 1941. Until the end of the summer of 1941, the plan was already developed by the General Directorate of Imperial Security. Officially it was presented on May 28, 1942. By the way, this document was secret. Representatives of the USSR and the Allies did not even succeed in attaching the original of this plan to documents that appeared as evidence of the Fascists' guilt at the Nuremberg trial.

The original document was found in the German archives most recently, in 2009. Prior to this, politicians and historians certainly knew about the existence of this plan, but no one could find it.

Resettlement of the people: whom could they relocate?

What would have happened if Hitler had won, in the aspect of maximizing the range of the residence of the German nation (the Aryan race)? For this it was necessary to relocate or physically destroy the peoples on the conquered eastern lands. What would have happened if Hitler had won, with the peoples of Poland and the USSR? Resettlement or gradual destruction were subject to Jews, Poles, Byelorussians, Russians, representatives of various national minorities. The scale of the relocations was really huge.

Colonization of the lands of Western Prussia

Note that plans for colonization Hitler hatched even before the attack on the USSR. In 1940, a plan was developed for the agricultural colonization of West Prussia and Varteland. As of 1939, these lands were part of Poland. At the time of occupation, the population of the territory was 4 million people. Of these, 3.4 million are the main nation (Poles). Also here lived 560 thousand Jews. The document did not clearly state what would have happened if Hitler had won, with the representatives of these peoples. Their fate was prompted by the usual logic of the behavior of the Germans - slavery for a while, and then physical destruction. In the case of planning for resettlement, the Germans necessarily indicated the location of the new dislocation of this group of people.

What else did Hitler plan to do? More than 4 million Germans were to move here. The main emphasis of the settlement should have been on the countryside (3 million people). It was planned to occupy people in agriculture - to create 100,000 farms by farm type with an area of 29 hectares each.

Colonization of the USSR

What would have happened if Hitler had won World War II, on the territory of the USSR? In a nutshell, there are huge migrations and genocide of the basic nation. In 1942, two variants of colonization were developed. The first was promulgated in May 1942. What ideas were expressed in this document? Colonization was to cover the area of 364,231 square meters. kilometer. According to the archives of the census, about 25 million people lived on these lands. It was envisaged the creation of 36 strong points (by the type of administrative district centers). In addition, the draft stated that 3 administrative districts with centers in Leningrad, in the districts of Kherson and Bialystok will be created. The type of colonization coincided with the plan for the colonization of West Prussia - on these lands they were going to develop agriculture. The difference is that it was supposed to create larger farms, the area of which could range from 40 to 100 hectares. But that is not all! It was planned to create large agricultural enterprises with areas of at least 250 hectares of beautiful fertile soil.

In the second plan, promulgated in September 1942, it was also mentioned the creation of agricultural settlements. The planned territory was about 330,000 sq. M. Kilometers. 360 thousand households were created for this project.

The size of migration of people according to the documents of the "Ost"

As we understand, there would be an absolutely different victory if Hitler won. The size of the relocations that he wanted to spend together with the party members in different sources is said in different ways. The fact is that in the territories selected for agricultural colonization, about 60 million people actually lived. In theory, most of them were to be transported to Western Siberia. But there is another opinion, according to which the Germans wanted to evacuate some 31 million inhabitants from their enforced years. To "liberated" territories from Germany themselves wanted to resettle up to 20 million "Aryans".

Conclusion

We hope that everyone understands perfectly what would have happened if Hitler had won the war. I very much want that the mistakes of the past are never repeated in the world again.
