Your favorite daylily does not bloom. Why is this happening?

Daylily (Hemerocallis) refers to incredibly hardy crops that adapt to virtually any condition. In one place without transplant the flower can grow and bloom 15 years, and sometimes longer. Florists recommend replanting plants every 5 years. Then the daylily will not only survive, but will blossom, look well-groomed and please its owners.

With proper care, the plant blooms almost all summer. The genus of the flower has 25 species. There are many colors and shades of it. In our latitudes, yellow, orange and burgundy-red plants are most often encountered. When the flower day blooms, the inflorescence lives one day. Hence its name - Hemerocallis, in translation from the Greek hemera - "day" and kallos - "beauty". Flowering bush stretched for almost a month, and each flower sprouts more than 30 buds, which open sequentially. Breeders constantly struggle to increase the duration of flowering.

But, despite all its simplicity in growing, sometimes the daylily does not bloom. Why this happens, we'll figure it out now. The refusal of plants from flowering occurs for some reason.

A lot of nitrogen in the soil

Despite the fact that nitrogen - one of the necessary elements for the life of plants, its overabundance can lead to the fact that there will be no flowering. If the reason why the daylily does not bloom, you may have overdone it with fertilizers. However, this is extremely rare. But if you assume that it was the fertilizers that became the culprits, stop fertilizing, transplant the flower in the spring to another place with well-prepared soil. The daylilies do not tolerate nitrogenous fertilizers and manure!

Unsuccessful landing

One of the most common mistakes - too deep landing, in which the daylily does not bloom. Why? Because with the correct planting the root neck, or in other words, the growth point, should be below the ground level no more than 2 cm. Look under the green foliage. If you see that the bush "sits" very deep, transplant the plant "higher".

Adaptation

Local conditions can also cause the daylily not to bloom. Why is this happening? Most often due to the fact that the purchased variety of the flower is not adapted to our climate or the purchased daylily is still young and should gain strength. Another option is that the plant is weakened. These problems are solved only by the time, you have to wait, try to fertilize and watch how the plant will behave.

In principle, we listed all the reasons why the daylily does not bloom. Why else could it be? Perhaps the plant does not have enough sun.

It should be noted that daylilies are the most resistant to diseases from garden plants. They are practically not affected by various pests.

The plant grows very much, and if you notice that the flowering and the number of flowers began to decrease, it's time to share the bush. The most suitable time for this is the spring growth of the leaves (late April-early May). If you transplant later, the plant will suffer a worse transplant and may not bloom in this year.

For the winter, do not cut the foliage, it protects the plant from freezing. And if you cut, then in this case it is better to mulch.

Look after your plants and they will thank you!
