Perhaps the best invention for the woodworking industry was the band saw on wood, which allows you to cut the log as accurately as possible, while the amount of waste and shavings is minimal.

To understand the importance of such saws, you need to return to the past for a moment. The old saws that were used for cutting the wood were huge, had significant shortcomings, a large thickness of the cut, a fixed gap, which allowed to work effectively only with logs of a certain thickness. If the logs were thicker or thinner, the amount of waste was simply astonishing. But under the USSR, nobody paid attention to such trifles, because raw materials were practically free.

The situation radically changed with the arrival of a market economy, because the tree had already to buy, and no one wanted to pay money for waste. In place of old sawmills came a band saw on wood. Due to its design, it can saw off boards of any thickness, makes a minimum cut, resulting in a huge savings in raw materials and the ability to make boards for different blanks. Also, band saws for wood are very compact, they can be transported without any special effort to a new location in order to reduce the cost of delivering raw materials, and in case of a breakdown an ordinary locksmith can repair them.

The simplicity of the design, which has a band saw on wood, is simply amazing. It is a fixed base on which a log is attached, and a carriage with two drums, on which a saw is stretched. The drums begin to spin and the saw cuts, the medium speed electric motor suffices to work. The carriage moves along the log and the board of the required thickness is cut off, the thickness of each subsequent board is regulated by the operator, which allows obtaining the maximum quality of the product. Such band saws are called horizontal. Their advantages are undeniable.

In addition, the band saw on the tree can be vertical. Such variants are used for working with small parts, as well as for sawing short logs. Here the design is slightly different, but it's also very simple. The saw on the drums turns vertically, and the carriage with the clamp, into which the material is inserted, moves along it. Working with such a saw is much safer and more accurate than with other woodworking machines.

The blade of the band saw itself also needs constant care - in sharpening and divorce. Sharpening is the simplest of operations with canvases, it is carried out on a special machine, which is included in a set of band saw on wood. Divorce teeth of the blade determines the thickness of the cut, as well as the intensity of the saw dust release. For each tree there are own standards of divorce, the minimum - 5 millimeters in each side for solid wood species, the maximum - 25 millimeters for soft breeds. Observance of these norms guarantees long service of a cloth, quality of received production, and also speed of work. During the change of the canvas on the drums, it is necessary to monitor the force of its tension, in order to avoid the production of products or the rupture of the cloth.
