The majestic building of the temple appeared in the city in the XII century and was erected from white marble. His style became a trendsetter for many Tuscan cathedrals. So the belfry, which later took some of the glory from its neighbors, was to complement the majestic architectural ensemble of the central square of the medieval city. Three more floors were erected, the height of the tower was 48 meters, but an even larger slope again caused the architects to stop the work.

The first works aimed at stopping the increase in heels were conducted in the 18th century, then in the XIX. However, this did not lead to the desired result.

The situation was complicated by the fact that available ways to strengthen the tower could significantly spoil its appearance. The search for the solution took more than a decade, and in the twentieth century, too, several attempts were made, which continued in the new millennium. Finally, after large-scale works in 2002-2010, which attracted the best Italian and foreign architects, it was announced that the Tower of Pisa does not threaten anything. At the moment it is open for visits. So those who are able to overcome 294 steps, as a reward, can afford to enjoy a wonderful view of the city from above.
