Where does the Yenisei River flow? In what sea does the Yenisei River flow into?

Who does not know the great Siberian river Yenisei? The question is rhetorical. In the whole world it is known, because along the length of the waterway it officially occupies the 5th place in the world among all rivers.

In the middle of Siberia

Three mighty rivers flow through Siberia: the Ob, Lena and the Yenisei. But it is the Yenisei dividing Siberia into two equal parts: the Western and the Eastern. With his swift, powerful stream, he crosses all this land, passing through mountains and plains, steppes and forests.

It would be incorrect to draw up a plan for the description of the Yenisei River, without first mentioning such an important location in the middle of Siberia.

Western Siberia extends its expanses on the left side of the Yenisei. The West Siberian lowland occupies an area of about 2.6 million square meters. Km and stretches to the Ural Mountains. This is the richest oil and gas basin in the Russian Federation.

"Mistress" of this half of Siberia is the Ob, the largest river in Russia along the length and the area of the basin.

On the right bank of the Yenisei, the boundless expanses of Eastern Siberia begin and stretch to the ridges of the Far East. Plateau and elevations predominate here, and permafrost is on a large part.

The largest river in Eastern Siberia is Lena. High in the mountains, near Baikal, she is born. When it enters the sea, Lena forms the largest delta in Russia, which consists of more than a thousand islands.

Ionesi, or the Great River

The plan for the description of the Yenisei River must necessarily include the origin of its name.

In the distant past, the locals called it differently. And since the peoples along its coasts are very different, there were several names. For example, in Tuva the name Yenisei was given to Ulug-Khem, which means "great river".

The Evenks called it Ionesis - in translation "big water". There were also the names of Ene-Sai, Kim, Hook and others.

However, Russian merchants began to trade with the Evenks. Therefore, they began to call the river Even name, only a little altered in their own way. And Ionesi became Yenisei. Under this name, it is now known all over the world.

Controversial truth

Where does the Yenisei River start and where does it flow? It turns out that there are disputes about this. However, only disputes about its beginning.

In the world ranking, the Yenisei takes the fifth place along the length of the waterway (5,539 km), passing only the Amazon, the Nile, the Yangtze and the Mississippi.

The waterway of the Yenisei begins in the Khangai mountains by the river Idar (452 km), in Mongolia. Then continues along the rivers Dalgar Mourin and Selenga (1,024 km). The latter flows into Lake Baikal, from which flows the majestic Angara. Its length is 1779 km. Above the Yeniseisk, the Angara finally flows into the Yenisei. And where does the Yenisei River flow into? It carries its waters to the Kara Sea, and then to the Arctic Ocean.

If we only talk about the length of the Yenisei, then the Kara-Balyk Lake located in the Eastern Sayans should be taken as a reference point. It is from it that the river Biy-Khem originates (in the translation of the Great Yenisei). Fusing with the Small Enisei (Kaa-Khem) near the city of Kyzyl, it forms a deep Yenisei. The length from the source to the Kara Sea is 4,123 kilometers.

The Yenisei Basin

By the area of the basin, this Siberian river is also one of the largest in the world. True, in this case it occupies the seventh, not the fifth place. In addition, another large Siberian river, Ob, flows forward, its basin area is 2,990,000 square meters. Km.

The Yenisei basin is asymmetric. On the right side there are its large-scale large tributaries, such as Angara, Lower and Podkamennaya Tunguska. Angara alone occupies almost half of the Yenisei basin (1,039,000 sq km out of 2,580,000 sq km). Therefore, sometimes there is controversy over the fact that where it falls: the Angara in the Yenisei or the Yenisei in the Angara. However, the Lower Tunguska can sometimes block the Angara by annual flow. Almost 500 rivers flow into the Yenisei. Among the left-bank can be identified Kahn, Abakan, Hemchik, Tuba and others.

For comparison, we can give examples: the Volga basin is half the size of the Yenisei basin, and the Dnipro basin is five times smaller.

Three parts of the Yenisei

There is a conditional division of the river into three parts. These are the Lower, Middle and Upper Yenisei.

The upper one starts near the city of Kyzyl, where the Big and Small Yenisei merge. It flows to the Krasnoyarsk reservoir for 600 kilometers, mainly along the mountainous terrain. The largest tributaries of the Upper Yenisei are Hemchik, Tuba and Abakan.

The middle Yenisey is called the part that connects the Krasnoyarsk Reservoir and the confluence of the Angara (about 750 km). By the way, the width of the Yenisei all the way to the mouth of the Angara does not exceed 500-700 meters. After the Krasnoyarsk depository, the area along which the Yenisei flows flows loses its mountain character.

The lower Yenisei is the longest and the widest. Its length is 1820 km, and the width varies from 2.5 to 5 km. The two banks of the river are very different here. Right - mountainous, left - flat, lowland. Lower Yenisei reaches the village of Ust-Port. However, it is too early to say what kind of sea the Yenisei River flows into.

From the mouth of the delta

The widest Yenisei in the delta, where it is divided into a multitude of ducts and several branches, between which the Brekhov Islands lie. By the way, the sleeves even have their names: Small, Large, Okhotsk and Stone Yenisei. The width of the total riverbed in these places is 75 kilometers.

Behind the island of Nasonov, the Yenisei sharply narrows, the so-called "throat" with a width of up to 5 km begins, and beyond the cape Sopochnaya Karga it is poured into the Yenisei Bay, in some places its width can reach up to 150 km. Here the question is pertinent: what river does the Yenisei flow into? Because the Yenisei Bay is the Gulf of the Kara Sea. It is located between the Gydan peninsula and the mainland part of Eurasia. Its depth varies from 6 to 20 meters. Sailing ships sail along the Yenisei Bay and enter the Yenisei, and then to the ports of Dudinka and Igarka. This Siberian river is navigable by almost 1000 kilometers.

Along the Yenisei

If we talk about cities, then the city of Kyzyl must be named first. After all, it is at the confluence of the Small and Great Yenisei, where the Upper Yenisei begins. Kyzyl is the capital of the Republic of Tuva, which is home to about 114 thousand people. The city is equated to the regions of the extreme North. There is an obelisk "Center of Asia" here, because this place is really the geographical center of Asia.

Next on the way to the sea, where the Yenisei River flows, there are the cities of Shagonar (Republic of Tyva), Sayanogorsk (Republic of Khakassia, near Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP), Minusinsk. The latter is already in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, it is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Siberia. The population reaches almost 70 thousand people.

The city of Abakan, the capital of the Republic of Khakassia, is located at the mouth of the Abakan River. It is home to more than 173 thousand people.

On the way to Krasnoyarsk, there is another small town - Divnogorsk. Hence the construction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station began.

The largest city on the Yenisei

The Krasnoyarsk Territory divides Russia into two practically equal parts and is located in the basin of the Yenisei. He is the second largest subject in the Russian Federation. Its administrative center was the city of Krasnoyarsk, located on both banks of the Yenisei, the Upper Yenisei. So far from the Arctic Ocean, where the Yenisei River flows into, it is very far from Krasnoyarsk.

It is a city with over a million inhabitants, there are a little more than 1 million inhabitants. It is clear that it is not only an administrative, but also a cultural, industrial, sports, educational center of Eastern and Central Siberia. In the city there are many sights that are interesting to see for tourists.

Cities-ports

City Eniseysk large can not be called. It is home to only about 20 thousand people. However, it is located near the place where the Angara flows into the Yenisei, or, as some like to argue, where the Yenisei flows into the Angara. Because the Angara is wider in the place of confluence than the Yenisei. Its pure waters are rapidly breaking into the Yenisei stream and they are already continuing the joint flow. Here the Yenisei is expanding considerably. The city of Yeniseisk is located on its left bank, below the confluence of the Angara. It is a very old city, founded in 1619 and became the center of fur trade with time. The fairs held there were famous throughout Russia.

We can not say more about the two cities located on the Yenisei. They serve as seaports. This is Dudinka and Igarka. The first is located on the right bank of the Yenisei, in its lower reaches. Here, the right tributary of Dudinka flows into the Yenisei. Hence the name of the city. There are more than 22 thousand people in it. But Igarka is a very small port. The number of its inhabitants is only 5,3 thousand people. After all, the city is beyond the Arctic Circle, in the permafrost zone.

No doubt, the story on the topic: "The Yenisei River: attractions, tributaries ..." can be continued indefinitely. For to say there really is something ...
