When to plant apple trees and care for them

Oh, thinking about when to plant apple trees! Sometimes they are akin to Hamlet. The seedlings are so young, thin, at the thought that they can be ruined by carelessness, the heart contracts. Here as here and advisers from all sides. Some say: "It does not matter when, it's important how!" Others, loudly mocking them, argue among themselves about the advantages of autumn and spring landings. Well, let's get smarter - listen to everyone and draw our conclusions.

There are no obvious advantages of planting apples in autumn or spring before each other. Both terms have their pros and cons and are directly related to the root system of the tree. If the apple is planted at the end of September or early October, the roots until the spring manage to consolidate fairly well in the soil. When the growing season begins , they are weak, but will supply "upstream" nutrients necessary for the process. However, if in the region of planting short autumn periods and severe winters are common, the gardener will have to work hard to help start sap movement: often watering plants, pritenyat them, loosen soil, etc. Only in this case there is a hope for the appearance of initially weak and small leaves.

If the planting time of the apple-tree is chosen in springtime - then this should be exactly the early spring. Planting a seedling in the still not completely thawed earth, the gardener must be ready for its active watering, warmed by the spring sun. After the leaves appear and properly unfold, you can switch to moderate watering and continue it until the autumn cold. Putting the same hopes on spring moisture means risking that the weakened root system of the apple tree will also dry up noticeably with all the ensuing consequences, such as sluggish development, a small increase in the overhead part, poor preparation for wintering, and, most likely, death In winter.

Now, from when to plant apple trees, let's move on to where and how to plant them.
The best apple tree grows where there is enough fertile loam soil and sunlight, where groundwater is low enough, and moisture does not stagnate in the soil where there is wind protection. Also, keep the distance between the apple tree on the one hand and the tall plants (at least 3.5 m) and dwarfish and semi-dwarfish (at least 2 m) on the other. It will be necessary to carefully and meticulously choose a place for planting an apple tree, but it's worth it.

The diameter of the pit for apple trees is calculated by the diameter delineated by the endings of the lateral roots, plus 5 cm. The depth of the pit is equal to the distance between the end of the longest root of the seedling and the graft.

When you plant an apple tree, the time will come, cut the diameter of the turf with a sharp shovel. Then take the fertile soil out of the pit, mixing it with peat and compost (2: 1: 1). When the sand or clay will go - also fold them, but separately. Part of the mixture zasypite the bottom of the pit, in the middle place the apple seedlings, spreading the roots, so that the vaccine was above the soil level by 2-4 cm. Pour the pit with a mixture, pound it. After transplantation apple-tree with pleasure will drink a whole bucket of water (10 liters), do not deny it. The soil will ask - fill these places with the mixture. And top cover with a layer of peat (about 2 cm).

The last apple tree is arranged with a support - a wooden peg, to which it must be carefully tied. It should be hammered at a distance of 8-10 cm from the stem of the seedling. The height of the peg should be level with the seedling.

As you can see, the answer to the question "when to plant apples" does not yet guarantee that you will succeed. A full harvest on the branches in the autumn will be given to the gardener only by everyday work.
