What seas wash Russia: the lesson of geography
In total there are 67 seas on our planet. How many seas wash Russia? Only thirteen, twelve of them are the seas of three oceans - mighty representatives of the World Ocean, and one sea that is not connected with the waters of the World Ocean - the Caspian Sea. But the extent of the shoreline of the seas of Russia is enormous - it is more than 1.5 times the length of the Earth's circumference, if measured on the equatorial section, and is 60,985 km. We will become acquainted with the details of which seas wash Russia.
What seas wash Russia from the west and the south-west? Three seas, belonging to the Atlantic Ocean. And all of them are intra-material, far reaching into the territory of the land and having a connection with the ocean through the straits. In the north-west of the Baltic, in the south-west - the intercontinental Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, communicating with each other Kerch Strait. The Black Sea waters are connected with the waters of the Marmara Sea by the Bosporus Strait. The Sea of Marmara through the Dardanelles (there is such a strait) communicates with the Mediterranean Sea, reaching the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar. Thus, the Black Sea waters are connected with the waters of the Atlantic.
What seas wash the shores of Russia in the east? Three outskirts of the sea. The northernmost is Bering, the southern one is Japanese, and between them is Okhotsk. They are called "outskirts" because they are adjacent to land, and their bottom is a continuation of the continent. With the waters of the Pacific, the seas are connected directly.
What seas wash Russia in the Far North? Let's list them from west to east: White, it is connected by straits with Barentsev. The Barents Sea is reported by the Kara Gulf Strait with the Kara Sea, the next is the Laptev Sea, then the East Siberian and Chukchi Seas - all of them are marginal seas. And all of them, except Bely, have only the southern shore. From Chukotsky to Beringovo one can get through the Bering Strait, which thus connects the two oceans and at the same time separates the two continents - Asia and America.
The Caspian is reckoned to the seas, but in fact this lake, the largest on the planet, It holds 44% of the entire volume of lake water on Earth. Long ago, the Caspian and Black Seas were one. In the historical chronicle of the planet in those days it was the Sarmatian Sea, which in the process of tectonic transformations in the earth's crust was divided into 2 parts. The most penetrating part of the land became the Caspian Sea (the bed of the sea is made of the oceanic type by the earth's crust), the other by the Black Sea.
