What is the ecological class of the car, how to define it

No one doubts that every car during work emits various pollutants into the atmosphere. Depending on the amount of toxic and harmful substances in the exhaust of each car, a special classification has been developed. In its development, the standards developed by the European branch of the United Nations were taken as a basis.

The ecological class of the car is "Euro 2", 3, 4, 5. This division allows selective approach to determining the level of auto tax: owners, whose cars are causing greater damage to the environment, are paid at a higher rate.

Since 2010, Russia has introduced a restriction on the use of cars that have an ecological class of "Euro 3" and below. You can import a low class car into the country, but you will not be able to register it. Therefore, if you decide to buy a car abroad, be sure to ask this characteristic from its owner (new cars, as a rule, have an ecological class above 4).

The law of Russia requires a certificate of "Euro 4" or higher for all cars produced in the country after 2009, and for all imported vehicles from 2010. A certificate is not required if the car is purchased before 2006. If the date of purchase is 2006-2007, then there should be a standard of "Euro 2" and higher, if 2008-2009, then the class should be "Euro 3" and higher. These laws are distributed before resale laws that were valid at the time of registration of purchase and sale. One "but": you can sell such a car, only by bringing it in line with the norms of "Euro 4". And then the new owner can easily put the purchased vehicle on the register.

Practical experience suggests that the conversion of the old car (especially the very old one) and bringing it in line with the prescribed standards is a very costly business. Even if you get the desired certificate, most likely, you will not be able to even return the money spent. So carefully consider everything and calculate before you start repair.

How to find out the ecological class of a car

Information about all cars is contained in special databases on the official website of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation. In order to find out which class your car belongs to, you must enter the first nine digits of the VIN number of your iron horse. If the database found a complete match, you can assume that this is the ecological class of your vehicle (the engine model must also match). If the search result is ambiguous (it issues two different classes), then you need to enter the next character of your VIN number. If after the introduction of all the figures it is impossible to uniquely determine, it will be necessary to pass the certification procedure.

If you managed to find out the ecological class of the car on the base, and it turned out to be "Euro 4" or higher, then to register a technical tool, you will need only printout from this site. If you are unlucky, and the car does not meet the standards, then the situation can be corrected only by re-equipping it. After that, pass the certification procedure in accredited organizations that will establish the environmental class of the car after modernization, and will issue the corresponding document.
