What is roaming?

Cellular communication today provides very wide opportunities. Roaming is one of the most important services for a modern person. If you are interested in the question of what roaming is, you can say that its essence is that you can use the same mobile phone in long distance trips where your operator's network does not work. This allows the subscriber to call from different countries and cities, as well as receive calls from subscribers who are hundreds of kilometers away. All modern telecommunication networks provide opportunities to make such calls, and most operators provide their subscribers with roaming services.

In general terms, what is roaming, it has already been said, now it is worth to say about what conditions for its organization exist. For this it is necessary that the cellular networks work in the same standard. At the moment there are several standards of cellular communication, here operators and should work in one standard, for example, CDMA or GSM. The communication switching centers of this particular standard were connected by means of special communication channels intended to determine the current location of the subscriber.

It turns out that roaming provision is possible only if the following conditions are met:

- availability of an appropriate standard of mobile communication in the required region, compatible with the company's standard that provides you access to the cellular network;

- availability of certain organizational and economic agreements related to subscriber roaming services;

- the presence of the necessary communication channels intended to provide the transmission of audio or other information between subscribers in the roaming zone of the corresponding systems.

What is roaming and how does it work?

When a subscriber moves from one network to another, the switching center of another network requests data from the original network, of course, if the subscriber has authorized credentials, and then registers. The data on the subscriber's presence are constantly updated in the switching center of the first network, and the calls coming there are redirected automatically to the network where the subscriber is at a particular moment.

In general, roaming can be of one of three types:

- manual form implies the usual exchange for a mobile phone connected to the cellular system of a particular operator;

- semi-automatic implies a situation where the subscriber pre-notifies his operator that he will be in a certain region where he needs this service;

- automatic means giving the subscriber the opportunity to connect to any place, that is, the client makes calls in roaming unhindered.

By categories, this service can be divided into intranet, national and international. The first service implies the ability for the customer to communicate anywhere in the country, while the second implies the possibility of moving a person with a mobile phone around the world, even where there are no representations of his mobile operator. This is feasible due to the contract concluded by your home communications provider and other companies. The advantage of roaming is the ability to make calls, both to other mobile phones, and to ordinary domestic, regardless of where they are.

How to activate roaming?

Usually this is done on a personal visit to any office or center of the cellular operator whose services you use at the moment. To do this, you must have an identification card with you, on the basis of which you have entered into a contract with the company.

Now you need to understand what roaming is, and what advantages it gives.
