What is jihad and how does it differ from terrorism

Because of ignorance of the foundations of Islam, many people do not know what jihad is. As a rule, the Europeans associate this word with explosions, hostage-taking, and Americans - with the tragic events of September 11. But is it really so? Is it really the holy book of Muslims that calls for homicide? Let's try to understand what jihad really is.

Origin of the term

Despite the fact that this word is often used as a synonym for "holy war", in fact it literally means "applying effort, diligence". This term is closely connected with the Arabic word jahd, which translates as "to work, to strain, to give all the forces." Thus, when answering the question "What is jihad in the religion of Muslims?" It can be said that this is the life-principle, the principle that a person, after studying Islam, should live according to learned truths, do good, teach others, distance from the reproved and fight With the external enemies of their faith. In other words, this is all the diversity of actions aimed at observing the principles of Islam, its study and preservation of knowledge for future generations.

Holy Jihad and terrorism: what is the difference?

If the term does not contain a call for aggressive action, then why is it so often used by supporters of decisive action and violence? The fact is that jihad is a broad enough concept. It can be done with word, heart, property, hands and weapons. Just at the last moment, and emphasize the adherents of the radical branches of this religion. Jihad in the Quran is any diligence and effort that is shown for the elevation of Islam. It is not necessary to use weapons for this. Those who do not share this view do not really know what jihad is and what its purpose is.

Initially, a person should accept Islam, then, having thoroughly studied all the rules of this religion, guided by its laws in life and try to teach their faith to others. Fanatics believe that it is necessary to confront with weapons in the hands of those who threaten the faith of Muslims. At the same time, they forget that it is necessary to struggle only within the confessional religion. That is, the efforts of believers should be aimed at removing obstacles between Islam and other people.

Jihad has only one goal in mind: to make it possible for all to accept Islam without any compulsion, and to give appropriate opportunities to those who teach and those who study the religion on their own. By his actions, the Muslim should contribute to the elimination of polytheism and violence and the triumph of kindness, mercy and justice. This means that not only supporters of Islam, but also people of other faiths, including atheists, should be taken under their care and protection. This is the main difference between the jihad and the war, which is conceived mainly for the sake of money and profit. Thus, the view that Islam breeds terrorism and violence is in fact erroneous. Indeed, in some cases, jihad can take forms of self-defense. However, this right, the right of protection, is for every person on the Earth, regardless of what he believes.
