What is cold batik
Batik is a technique of painting on fabric. There are several varieties of this decorative and applied art, differing in complexity - knot (the simplest), hot (the most complex) and cold batik. In this article we will tell you about the latter.
Batik cold is based on the fact that all forms of drawing have a contoured closed stroke. This technique gives an original look and character to the pattern. To apply contour lines to the fabric, use a special tube of glass. It has a thin bent end and a tank that is located closer to the working part. The latter is a thickening of a spherical shape and serves to set a reservoir composition. The walls of the bent end of the tube must be thin, since the width of the contour depends both on the diameter of the hole and on the thickness of the tube itself.
What is necessary for classes
1. Acrylic or water-soluble paints. The first is more like gouache - this is the overcoat. A water-soluble is well used for delicate and thin fabrics. There are also paints that are fixed with the iron.
3. The glass tube is useful for applying a contour (reservoir composition) to the fabric. The smaller the diameter, the thinner the line applied.
4. Buttons will be needed to pull the fabric on a special frame. For silk and other fine fabrics, it is better to use either buttons with a thin point, or special three-pronged ones.
How to make a cold batik and what to look for
For the quality contour, the angle of the reserve tube is 135 degrees. If it is held at a more obtuse angle, the pressure of the reservoir composition will increase. And this threatens an unforeseen spreading of liquid over the surface of the tissue. At the beginning of the line and in places of slower movement, drops may appear. For this reason, the tube should be kept evenly, and at the beginning of the work it should be dropped without delay on the fabric so that a drop does not form.
The other end of the batik tube should be slightly raised. This is necessary so that the composition does not spill. After the contour is drawn , the pattern is allowed to dry.
It is worth noting that within twenty-four hours the reserving liquid on the fabric should dry well.
Filling the parts of the drawing can be done with the help of brushes, cotton swabs or tubes.
In this case, it is worth paying attention to the fact that both small and large areas are evenly covered with paint. Otherwise they will be different tone, or they will have a divorce.
A cold batik, the master class on which is presented in this article, is an exciting activity. Thanks to him you can create beautiful and unique products.
