What is an injector? Part Features

What is an injector? This is an indispensable detail in the system of every modern car running on gasoline. By its design, it resembles a certain nozzle, which splashes fuel into the cylinders of ICE. In simple words, the injector sprays a mixture of air and gasoline droplets in the combustion chamber. Many confuse this part with the obsolete carburetor, considering it equal in function and design. However, this is not at all the case. In this article we will find out what an injector is, and also how it differs from a carburetor.

A big difference

It is quite easy to recognize and distinguish an injector from a carburetor. First, it is determined visually - the first part is much smaller than the second and has a different design. However, there is one more feature that can not be determined externally. And it consists in the preparation of the mixture. If gasoline mixes with air before entering the chamber, consuming up to 10 percent of the engine's power, then the injector device works on the principle of the injector. The fuel is then supplied under high pressure. Therefore, the latter type does not affect the motor power at all and does not take it away from the car during acceleration and movement.

Varieties

There are three main groups, into which the modern injector is divided . VAZ and many other domestic cars have a single-point injection system. This is as follows: all four cylinders are supplied with fuel from only one injector, in which a mixture of fuel was previously prepared. The second type is distributed. The whole process is the same, the only difference is the number of nozzles. There can be several of them - each manifold is manned by its injector. The amount directly depends on the type of motor. If it is a 4-cylinder, there are four nozzles on the manifold, if six, then six.

The last type of injection is immediate. Here everything happens as with diesel engines - gasoline is supplied directly to the cylinders, that's why these cars have the most economical fuel consumption.

Advantages and disadvantages

The answer to the question about what an injector is, we have already found, now we turn to other features of the injectors. The main advantages of using such systems are the economical fuel consumption. Of course, the dosage of the injector is much more accurate, so there is never any excess fuel here. It is also important that these engines are more dynamic. The power of the injector motors is maintained when the fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber, respectively, the car becomes more frisky. However, the minuses are also present here. The first drawback is their cost. The nozzle can cost and 100, and even 400 US dollars, therefore its maintenance should be made on HUNDRED. By its design, the injector is quite complex, so if you need to repair it yourself, you should spend a lot of time cleaning it. And when you contact the service center, you will have to pay a lot of money. Despite the disadvantages, this part has always been and will be the most effective and reliable in the engine power system .

So, we considered the question of what an injector is, and described all the features of this part.
