What is a lazy eye and why is it dangerous?

In our time, retinal diseases are very common. This is explained very simply - computers that have become so popular and telephones have a negative impact on vision. That is why various eye diseases are increasingly found in adolescence and even in childhood.

So, what is a cataract eye nowadays know almost everything. Her symptoms, treatment, the danger she gives - all this is known. Few people know about one of its possible consequences.

So, cataract can cause the development of amblyopia - a disease in which one of the eyes almost completely ceases to function. Because of this particular amblyopia, she received a different name - a lazy eye.

For the sake of justice, it should be noted that the cause of amblyopia can be not only cataract. There are several different situations in which this disease can develop. For reasons of occurrence, amblyopia is divided into several types.

Thus, a lazy eye, which arose due to strabismus, is called dibinocular. Refractive - arose due to a high degree of myopia or hyperopia.

Hysterical amblyopia can develop due to severe emotional stress, and obscurant amblyopia due to the violation of retinal illumination, which can be caused by cataracts, changes in the position of the vitreous humor, and trauma.

With a strong difference in eyesight (3 diopters and more), anisometropic form of the disease can develop.

The lazy eye brings to its owner quite a large number of various problems, up to complete or partial blindness. To understand how serious everything is, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze the mechanism of the development of this disease.

So, with amblyopia, one eye always sees worse than the other, resulting in the brain receiving two different pictures. In order to avoid confusion and double vision, the brain gradually "turns off" the weakest eye, which leads to partial blindness - from that moment one person can only examine one person with one eye.

However, the problems do not end there: one eye can not give a full review, the depth, volume and distance cease to differ to the full. Because of the constant voltage, there may be eye pain, redness, burning, and intraocular pressure may increase. In the end, a healthy eye can not stand the strain and also go blind.

Diagnosing a lazy eye in childhood (up to 11 years) is most difficult, but it is during this period that it can be completely cured. The first symptoms of this disease are mild strabismus, poor vision of one of the eyes, impaired perception of depth, lack of fixation of eyesight, closure of one of the eyes with visual focusing (for example, reading), deterioration of central and peripheral vision.

Unfortunately, in adults, a lazy eye is almost impossible to cure, but it is quite possible to improve the condition and prevent blindness. It is very effective to put a bandage on a healthy eye and wear properly selected lenses.

A good effect can also be provided by surgical intervention, but eye surgery is always a risk, therefore it should be resorted to only as a last resort.
