What are the main symptoms of neuralgia?

Neuralgia is a disease of the peripheral nerve, in which painful sensations of different nature arise in the affected area. In this disease, the person has no movement disorders, the functionally affected nerve does not change.

There are several types of neuralgia that occur in patients. Our task is to describe the characteristics of each of them and the main characteristics.

Thus, neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve develops on the basis of previously suffered trauma to the face, malocclusion, pulpitis, inflammation of the nasal sinuses. Symptoms of neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve are approximately the following: pain arises from the ingestion of hot or cold food into the oral cavity. Also, an attack can cause sharp and loud sounds, bright light, even applying makeup or cleaning your teeth. On the face there are so-called "kurkovye" areas which, at the slightest pressure, inflame and cause an attack of the disease. This is the tip of the nose, the gums and the zone of the upper lip. Before the onset of pain, itching starts and a slight tingling. An attack can appear, whenever you like.

The causes of neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve are not fully investigated. One underlying factor in the onset of this disease is an increase in pressure on the nerve of a blood vessel located near the brainstem. Often this provokes an inflammatory process that occurs in the nasal sinus. Such changes lead to friction of the vessels about the trigeminal nerve, which entails the erasure of its protective membrane.

Intercostal neuralgia is a diagnosis that is possible with constant pain in the area of the ribs, which increases if the patient begins to sneeze or cough. This disease occurs as a consequence of osteochondrosis. Also, the cause of the onset may be the transferred herpes zoster.

Typically, the symptoms of neuralgia of the occipital nerve is a feeling of aching pain in the nape of the neck, which gradually gives out in the temples and eyes. With a change in the position of the body and during movement, there is an increase in pain, which causes bouts of nausea and even vomiting.

With neuralgia of the pterygoid node, pain attacks occur abruptly and proceed painfully. As a rule, pain begins at night and can last from two hours to several days. Acute painful sensations arise in the sky, in the temples, eyes, neck, spreading on the hands.

Neuralgia of the cutaneous external nerve of the thigh is characterized by pain accompanied by burning. Symptoms of neuralgia of this type: burning and numbness in the thigh, increasing pain when walking. As a rule, this disease occurs in patients who are few and rarely move.

Usually neuralgia develops as a result of traumas, infections in the field of nerve endings. Symptoms of neuralgia for each subspecies of their disease, but there are several common characteristics:

  • Cutting pains;
  • Attacks occur due to hypothermia, overexertion (more often emotional than physical);
  • There are painful points, when pressed, there is a piercing pain.

In order to eliminate the symptoms of neuralgia, and to cure the disease completely, it is necessary to eliminate the causes of its development. The specialist in this case appoints a complex treatment, consisting of the intake of B group vitamins, a number of medications, as well as procedures and regular examinations. Studies show a high level of treatment of neuralgia with the help of acupuncture, the use of magnetic fields, ultraviolet. The pain facilitates the compress, massage and taking medications that eliminate inflammation. The most popular now is the use of the blockade method, in the creation of which specialized anti-inflammatory drugs participate.

Remember that achieving a positive result of treatment is a consequence of a timely call to a doctor.
