What are biennial plants? Examples are found in the garden and on the flower beds

Among herbaceous, root crops and tuberous plants and flowers, there are annuals and perennials, and there are also biennials.

How to distinguish

From the name it is clear that the first life cycle occurs in one summer - shoots, growth, flowering and fruiting. Two-year-old flowers and plants are few in nature. In the first summer they grow roots, a short stem and leaves. By winter, their leaves fade, falling to the ground along with the stalk. And biennial plants remain for wintering (on land or in storage) - they need exposure to cold, without it they will not blossom for another, the second in their life, summer. Since the spring, biennials throw a more powerful trunk and abundant leaves, dissolve flowers (or form tubers, fruits). After the flowering seeds germinate in them, after which the plants die. That's what biennial plants are. Examples of perennials are more numerous - they are plants that settle in the earth for a long time, blossoming every summer, remaining to winter in the ground, of course, under favorable conditions for this.

Examples of annual, biennial and perennial plants

First we go into the garden. What is growing from annuals? First of all - potatoes, radishes, tomatoes, peppers (sweet and bitter), cucumber, Savoy cabbage and Peking, watermelon, melon, pumpkin (pumpkin itself and its "relatives" - krukenk, zucchini, squash), eggplant, beans, peas, Soya, corn, sunflower, physalis, rapeseed, borage, anise, basil, hyssop, coriander, dill, fennel, savory, chervil, garden lobster, all kinds of salads (including cress salad), spinach, mustard leaf, marjoram. For all these plants, life begins with sowing seeds in the spring and ends in autumn with harvesting in the form of tubers, root crops, seeds, giving rise to a similar life in the next season.

Examples of biennial plants: cabbage (red, white, Brussels, leaf, kohlrabi). From onions - leeks and shallots. Root-fruit biennial plants are examples: carrots, rutabaga, turnip, radish (white and black), beets, parsley, celery, parsnip. Leaves - parsley and celery - are also two-year-old. Little-known but growing valuable biennial plants, examples: chard (beetroot), chicory ordinary, lettuce chicory, scorzonera (black- rooted ), oat root, shallots. From spicy aromatic to biennial refers cumin.

Perennials are Jerusalem artichoke, sorrel, a family of onion (all known brass, little-known slug, multi-tiered and chives-onion), rhubarb, horse-radish, artichoke, asparagus, stachis. Spicy aromatic: tarragon (he is a tarragon), lyubovok, thyme, lemon balm, mint.

Where should I take the onion

Let's figure it out. First in the first season seeds are sown, called in the people by the black one. By autumn they get a seedling - small bulbs. Of these, for the next, second summer, grow large bulbs - a true onion, without which a little what a dish does. In the third season, you need to plant such an onion and wait for it to flow first, and then the seeds - blackies. It turns out, by all rules, onion - a 3-year, therefore, a long-term.
