"Vologda Pyatak", the colony

For the crimes committed, convicts who received their sentence are sent to institutions for serving their sentence. One of these is the fifth special regime correctional colony. People call it Vologda Pyatak. It is located in the former building of the Cyril-Nenogorsk Monastery. This name was given to the colony due to the fifth issue of the institution assigned to it.

A bit of history

A colony was built in 1517 on granite blocks, delivered by boats by the monks themselves. The thickness of the walls, which are erected directly from the water, reaches one and a half meters.

The monastery was on a special account with the grand dukes and Moscow kings, who often visited it. For which he was awarded with contributions and patrimony.

In the sixteenth century, the Kirillo-Nenogorsk Monastery received three lakes and lands and was exempt from all kinds of duties. But in 1919 everything changed. By order of the new government, all possessions were confiscated. The monks were deprived of personal belongings and clothing. After that, they were forced to leave their abode and scatter around the neighborhood.

From the monastery they made a prison for opponents of the revolution. Then they turned it into a colony for political prisoners. And after Stalin's death, the institution became a prison for dangerous criminals. Currently, Vologda Pyatak is intended for convicts who committed particularly serious crimes, sentenced to life imprisonment or the death penalty, replaced by a milder form of punishment due to the imposed moratorium. Where is this institution located?

"Vologda Pyatak" - prison of my soul

An article under this title was written by Masha Pishkina, which sets forth her subjective opinion about her employees, and not about the convicts. She called the "Vologda Pyatik" Russian Alcatraz.

The article arose after visiting the colony in a team with the crew.

The first impression described in Masha's article was caused by the appearance of a colony employee who was thirty years old. But from the words of Pishkina, it looked like forty. So the morally difficult conditions of work and living affect. Many of the employees live on the neighboring island in emergency homes. The school for the kids is ten kilometers away, and the kindergarten needs major repairs.

The head of the colony made a positive impression on Mary due to his good nature, decency, sympathy and modesty.

Analyzing the staff of the institution, the girl noted for herself that all of them are in some way unique and interesting as individuals.

Visiting the "Vologda Pyatak" and communicating with those who work there, have caused Maria's desire to be in their ranks and carry out a morally difficult service within the precincts of the colony.

Construction of a new building

On the doors of each cell in the colony "Vologda Pyatik" hangs a sign on which a brief description of the convict is indicated. It says: the article on which he sits, how many people have killed, whether he is inclined to escape, suicide, self-mutilation, etc.

"Vologda Pyatak" is a colony of special regime. And it is intended for dangerous criminals. Therefore, the signs hang to ensure that the staff of the institution do not lose their vigilance and always remember who is in the cell.

The head of the colony noted the tendency to reduce the age of convicts. A few years ago, the average figure reached forty-four to forty-seven years. But now it's twice as low. More and more people began to arrive from twenty-one to twenty-two years old. Employees explain this by improper education, the influence of society, the media.
