Vertical wind turbine with own hands (5 kW)

The activities of both individuals and the whole of today's humanity are virtually impossible without electricity. Unfortunately, the rapidly increasing consumption of oil and gas, coal and peat leads to a reduction in the reserves of these resources on the planet. What can be done while all this is still among the earthlings? According to the conclusions of experts, it is the development of energy complexes that can solve the problems of world economic and financial crises. Therefore, the most relevant are the search and use of fuel-free energy sources.

Renewable, ecological, "green"

Perhaps, we should not remind that everything new is a well-forgotten old. The force of the current of the river and the speed of the wind people have learned to apply for obtaining mechanical energy for a very long time. The sun heats us water and moves cars, feeds space ships. The wheels installed in streams and small rivers fed water to the fields in the Middle Ages. One windmill could provide flour to several surrounding villages.

At the moment, we are interested in a simple question: how to provide your home with cheap light and heat, how to make a windmill with your own hands? 5 kW power or a little less, the main thing is that you can supply your home with a current for the operation of electrical appliances.

It is interesting that in the world there is a classification of buildings according to the level of resource efficiency:

  • The usual ones, built before 1980-1995;
  • With a low and ultra-low level of energy consumption - up to 45-90 kWh per 1 kV / m;
  • Passive and non-volatile, receiving current from renewable sources (for example, by installing a wind turbine rotor (5 kW) with your own hands or a solar panel system, you can solve this problem);
  • Energy-active buildings that generate electricity more than they need, receive money, giving it through the network to other consumers.

It turns out that own, mini-home stations installed on roofs and in yards can eventually form a kind of competition to large current suppliers. And governments of different countries in every possible way encourage the creation and active use of alternative energy sources.

How to determine the profitability of your own power plant

Researchers have proved that the reserve capabilities of winds are much greater than all accumulated centuries-old fuel reserves. Among the ways of obtaining energy from renewable sources, windmills have a special place, since their manufacture is simpler than the creation of solar collector panels. In fact, a wind generator with 5 kW can be assembled by own hands, having the necessary components, among them magnets, copper wire, plywood and metal for blades.

Experts say that a design not only of the correct form, but also constructed in the right place, can be productive and, accordingly, profitable. This means that it is necessary to take into account the presence, constancy and even speed of air flows in each individual case and even in a particular region. If in the terrain periodically there come the stitches, calm and windless days, the mast assembly with the generator will not bring any benefit.

Before you start making a windmill with your own hands (5 kW), you need to think over its model and look. Do not expect a weak design of a large energy output. Conversely, when it is necessary to feed only a couple of bulbs in the country, there is no point in building a huge windmill with your own hands. 5 kW - power, sufficient to provide electricity to virtually the entire lighting system and home appliances. There will be a constant wind - there will be light.

How to make a wind generator your own hands: the sequence of actions

On the place chosen for high mast reinforce the windmill itself with the generator connected to it. The generated energy flows through the wires to the desired room. It is believed that the higher the mast structure, the larger the diameter of the wind wheel and the stronger the air flow, the higher the efficiency of the entire device. In fact, it's not quite like this:

  • For example, a strong hurricane can easily break the blades;
  • Some models can be installed on the roof of an ordinary house;
  • The correctly selected turbine is easy to start up and works perfectly even with a wind at a very low speed.

The main types of windmills

Classical are considered designs with a horizontal arrangement of the axis of rotation of the rotor. Usually they have 2-3 blades and are installed at high altitude from the ground. The greatest efficiency of such an installation is manifested with an air flow of constant direction and its speed of 10 m / s. A significant disadvantage of this blade design is the failure of the rotation of the blades with the frequently changing, gusty direction of the wind. This leads either to unproductive work, or to the destruction of the entire installation. To start such a generator after a stop, it is necessary to force the initial unwinding of the blades. In addition, with active rotation, the blades produce specific, unpleasant sounds to the human ear.

A vertical wind generator ("Volchok" 5 kW or other) has a different rotor placement. H-shaped or barrel-shaped turbines capture wind of any direction. These designs are smaller, run even in the weakest air currents (at 1.5-3 m / s), do not require high masts, they can be used even in urban conditions. In addition, the rated capacity of windmills, with their own hands (5 kW - this is real) collected, reach with wind at 3-4 m / s.

Sails not on ships, but on land

One of the popular trends in wind power now is the creation of a horizontal generator with soft blades. The main difference is both the material of manufacture and the form itself: created windmills with their own hands (5 kW, sailing type) have 4-6 triangular fabric blades. Moreover, unlike traditional designs, their cross-section increases in the direction from the center to the periphery. This feature allows not only to "catch" a weak wind, but also to avoid losses during a hurricane air flow.

The advantages of sailing ships include the following indicators:

  • High power with slow rotation;
  • Independent orientation and adjustment for any wind;
  • High vane and low inertia;
  • No need for forced unwinding of the wheel;
  • Completely silent rotation even at high speeds;
  • Absence of vibrations and sound disturbances;
  • Relative cheapness of construction.

Windmills with own hands

5 kW of required electricity can be obtained in several ways:

  • Construct a simple rotor structure;
  • To assemble a complex of several sailing wheels sequentially arranged on one axis;
  • Use an axial construction with neodymium magnets.

It is important to remember that the power of the wind wheel is proportional to the product of the cubic value of wind speed per swept area of the turbine. So, how to make a 5 kW wind generator? The instruction is next.

For a basis it is possible to take an automobile nave and brake disks. 32 magnets (25 by 8 mm) are placed parallel in a circle on the future rotor disks (movable part of the generator) for each disk of 16 pieces, and the pluses necessarily alternate with minuses. The opposite magnets must have different poles. After marking and placing everything on the circle is filled with epoxy.

Coils of copper wire are placed on the stator. Their number should be less than the number of magnets, that is, 12. Preliminary, all the wires are output and connected with a star or a triangle, then they are also filled with epoxy glue. It is recommended to insert pieces of plasticine before inserting into the coils. After hardening of the resin and their removal, there are holes that are needed for ventilation and cooling of the stator.

How it all works

The rotor disks, rotating relative to the stator, form a magnetic field, and an electric current appears in the coils. A windmill, connected through a system of pulleys, and is needed in order to move these parts of the working structure. How to make a wind generator with your own hands? Some start manufacturing their own power plant from the generator assembly. Others - with the creation of a rotary blade.

The shaft from the windmill is linked by sliding connection to one of the rotor disks. A lower, second disk with magnets is placed on the strong bearing. The stator is located in the middle. All parts are attached to the plywood circle with the help of long bolts and fixed with nuts. Between all the "pancakes" must leave minimal gaps for free rotation of the rotor discs. The result is a 3-phase generator.

"Barrel"

It remains to make windmills. With his own hands, a 5 kW rotary design can be made from 3 circles of plywood and a sheet of the thinnest and lightest dural. Metal rectangular wings are attached to the plywood bolts and corners. Preliminary in each plane of the circle, the grooves in the form of a wave are hollowed out, into which the sheets are inserted. The resulting two-storey rotor has 4 wavy blades attached to each other at right angles. That is, between each two hinged plywood pancakes are arranged in 2 curved in the form of a wave of duralumin blades.

This design is centered on the steel stud, which will transmit the torque to the generator. Windmills, with their own hands (5 kW) created, such a construction weigh approximately 16-18 kg at a height of 160-170 cm and a base diameter of 80-90 cm.

What you need to consider

A wind turbine "barrel" can be installed even on the roof of the building, although there is quite enough a tower with a height of 3-4 meters. However, it is necessary to protect the generator housing from the natural precipitations. It is also recommended to install a battery pack of energy.

To obtain from a constant 3-phase AC current, a converter must be included in the circuit.

With enough windy days in the region, the windmill, assembled by its own hands (5 kW), can provide current not only with TV and light bulbs, but also a video surveillance system, air conditioning, refrigerator and other electrical equipment.
