Theater "Roman" - cultural property of Russia

For more than eighty years the theater "Romain" hospitably welcomes its audience and gives them a holiday, joy and love.

Nikolai Alekseevich Slichenko, artistic director of the theater, thanks to his unique talent as an actor, teacher, leader, managed to create a troupe, which the public of all countries of the world applauds standing up.

From the history of the theater

To the Russian people the musical culture of the Roma has become close ever since the people appeared on the territory of Russia. Gypsy songs, dances could not remain indifferent neither the common people, nor representatives of the intelligentsia.

Perhaps, for this reason, in 1930 the idea of the formation of the Roma theater was popular to all, including the leadership of the country. During the first year of its existence, the creative team was considered a studio. Only after the successful premiere of the musical drama performance in three acts "Life on Wheels" was it decided to rename the studio into the Romani Theater "Roman".

In difficult war years, the theater troupe, like all the actors of the country, gave performances at the front and supported the spirit of the rear workers. Most of the proceeds from the concerts went to the army.

The theater "Romain" did not change the address of his stay since 1969. It was then on Leningradsky Prospekt 32/2 in the concert hall of the Sovietskaya Hotel and in the building next door that it was decided to place the famous theater.

In 2005, reconstruction of the theater premises and restoration of the facade of the building were carried out. The hall was equipped with modern sound equipment, lighting equipment.

The mission of the theater

Throughout the years of work, the theater's troupe shows a surprisingly reverent attitude to the traditions of its people. The basis for this was laid by the composer Bugachevsky, who for thirty-seven years led everything that concerned the musical part in the theater's work.

They collected and recorded the folk tunes of Roma living in different parts of Russia. "Gypsy folk songs and dances" - the so-called collection, released by the composer. And today this edition is the most complete of the existing collections of gypsy music.

Preservation of the original musical culture of the Roma is one of the main tasks that the collective is called upon to solve.

The theater "Roman" in the person of its leaders and the whole troupe from the first days of its existence took on other important missions. One of them was the enlightenment of his people. The addition of people of other nationalities to the Gypsy culture is another important task that confronts the theater staff.

Troupe

The creative staff of the theater "Roman" is unique, taking into account the number of acting dynasties working here. The founders of the first were the oldest actors of the theater, such as Lyalya Chernaya, N. Pankova, M. Cherkasova, V. Polyakov and many others.

Later, the troupe of the theater was joined by a galaxy of young talented actors, who later became the founders of theatrical gypsy dynasties. These include O. Yankovskaya, L. Mushtakova, O. Petrova, N. Slichenko and many other actors.

Today, the theater employs many young families who completely give themselves to art, investing in what they do, particles of their soul.

Repertoire

The theater "Romen" can really be proud of its repertoire. Many plays written by the first playwrights of the theater I. Rom-Lebedev, I. Khrustalev, and today live on the stage of the theater. They became a kind of gypsy classics.

Until 1937 the performances were played in the Gypsy language. But it was decided that the language spoken by actors from the stage should become Russian. This greatly increased the number of spectators of the theater, allowed to expand the repertoire, including in it the classics of Russian and foreign literature.

Due to the efforts of talented directors and actors of the theater, musicals, musical comedies and fairy tales, dramas, musical romantic fantasies, parables are put on the stage.

The theater "Romain", whose repertoire is so diverse and close to people of different cultures, are greeted with storms of applause in any corner of the Earth for more than eighty years.

Playbill

This year the theater season in Moscow begins the theater "Roman". The playbill of the theater invites spectators to visit the grandiose show "We are Gypsies", in which the whole troupe is involved, including the artistic director of the theater Nikolay Slichenko. For many years this presentation is a kind of visiting card of the team.

The list of the nearest performances includes the premieres - the parable "The Oath", the musical comedy "The Horseshoe of Happiness", "The King of Diamonds", the musical and romantic fantasy "The Bells of Love".

The performances, without which the viewer simply does not think of the theater "Roman", will also be played in the season. These are, first of all, such productions as "Gypsy paradise", "Grushenka", "Countess-gypsy woman" and many others.

In the performances there is a lot of music, dances are performed, gypsy songs seldom performed from the stage.

In each new theatrical season, the viewer expects from the actors of the theater "Roman" the workshop of the game, unforgettable impressions. Still never happened so that the expectations of the public were not justified.
