The shining river Tsna: a brief description of the water body

The river Tsna belongs to the Volga catchment basin. It is the left tributary of the Moksha. It flows through the territory of Tambov and Ryazan regions. The name of the river was given to the Mordvinian tribes living in this area since the time of the Great Migration of Nations. From the Finno-Ugric "Tsna" means "shining". The largest settlements on the river are the cities of Morshansk, Kotovsk, Sasovo and Tambov. Tsna starts in the Sampur district of the Tambov region from the confluence of two small water streams: the Wet Warm and the White Pless. It has a large number of tributaries: Serp (66 km), Karyan (48 km), Lesnoy Tambov (89 km), Chelnova (121 km), Kersha (86 km), Kashma (111 km), Bolshoy Lomovis (106 km) Lomovis (66 km), Lipovitsa (52 km) and others. Even before the revolution in 1912, at Tsna, for the first time, the first hydroelectric power station (within the precincts of the provincial city) was built in Tambovshchina.

Description

Tsna-river on the map permeates the entire territory of the Tambov region. It is the largest waterway in Tambovshina. The total length of the Tsna is 445 kilometers, while the 291 km section crosses the districts of the region. The river begins on the south-western slopes of the Volga Upland, near the village of Bakharevo, at an altitude of 190 meters above sea level. Further flows in the northern direction, taking water from various tributaries. The area of the Tzana catchment area is more than 21,000 square kilometers. Of these, about 42% are located in the Tambov region. The Tsna River is completely covered by ice by December, which opens in the second half of March or early April (depending on the weather conditions). There is a huge number of settlements on the left. The right bank is covered with forest, but the massif comes to the river only in some places, as it was completely cut down during the Great Patriotic War. The river's food is mixed: atmospheric precipitation, snowmelt and groundwater. In spring, in the period of high water, the level of Tsna rises to 5 meters.

Economic importance

The Tsna River is a calm plain water stream, which is regulated by a system of dams. It is navigable only in places, starting from the regional center of the region and up to the mouth. But the list of waterways of the Russian Federation included only a section from the village of Tenshupino and to the place where Tsna flows into Moksha. Before the revolution, barge haulers were hauling along it. During the Soviet times, the entire length of the river was used for water service, vessels like "Zarnitsa" ( air cushion) followed . Now, due to the fact that one of the dams in the territory of the Ryazan region collapsed, the river has become very shallow. Other segments have only local significance. Tsna's water is used for drinking needs, for supplying settlements and industrial enterprises, for irrigation of fields and generation of electric power. Fishing

For fishermen, the river Tsna is very attractive. Fishing here lasts all year round. In certain seasons, when the water is sufficiently transparent, there is an urgent need for submarine fishing. Between May 1 and June 10, fishing is allowed only for the bottom or float fishing rod, with the number of hooks not more than two. At any time of the year it is forbidden to catch the following types of fish: Chechon, Podust, lamprey, fish and gorchak.

Tourism and recreation

The Tsna River is very relevant for a lot of fans of hiking and water tourism. Many historical monuments (Prince Vorontsov-Dashkov's estate, horse farm with Oryol trotters, Tsninsky Bor with an area of more than 2 thousand square kilometers, numerous churches of the XVIII-XX centuries, etc.) are interesting for backpackers.
